Im thinking about getting back into LE. I got burned out on all the reports and bs that goes with the job. I worked city PD and SO. I want a nice quiet job with little to no paper work. Anyone know much about the State Parks LE Ranger position?

I hear state parks is busy too. Depending where u work. -
State park rangers do as much if not more paper work as anyone else in LE. As for all the other bs I can only guess you are referring to the politics in the job, and do you honestly think a state agency run by a political appointee is not going to have the same thing?
You may want to rethink your career options, as paper work is part of the job, there is just no getting away from it. There are always going to be people in LE who want to get ahead, some do it with hard work and good habits, others do it by kissing azz and playing politics, or just plain outright back stabbing. If you don't want to deal with it, don't, ignore it and do your job Keep in mind there is a lot more to the job than driving around all day looking to arrest someone.Comment

As to the OP, Park rangers still do paperwork. I assume you might get more citations that don't require reports, but there will still be paperwork and you will still have court dates to appear for. I've read a fair amount of serious crime reports coming out of parks as well. A lot of tweakers in the northstate love parks and public land as places to illegally camp and use dope. Lots of 11377 H&S, 273.5 PC and the like come out of those situations.Last edited by retired; 07-29-2014, 1:48 AM."Far and away the best prize life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." - Theodore Roosevelt

Paperwork goes with the job.
I handled more murders and wrote more paper when I worked one of our mountain patrol units. There was only one unit assigned to our patrol area....us. If it happened in our area, we wrote it. Try going to a trailhead parking lot for a burglary to vehicle report, only to find 20 cars broken into. That's 20 separate incident reports, each with its own victim.Last edited by retired; 07-29-2014, 1:48 AM.LASD Retired

http://www.dsh.ca.gov/patton/HospitalSecurity.asp#role DSH police? I can't imagine there is much paperwork there (but then again, I've been known to be wrong from time to time...)Stay classy, CGF and Calguns.Originally posted by bwiese[BTW, I have no problem seeing DEA Agents and drug cops hanging from ropes, but that's a separate political issue.]Comment

As stated before rangers do lots of paperwork. In addition to the regular Law Enforcement paperwork rangers also have medical reports, environmental impact reports, regular park operations paper work and more. One key difference is that rangers contact more people who are not bad guys than other LEOs. State Park Rangers are still law enforcement so still have law enforcement issues, but look at there office.Comment

I know paperwork is essential to the job what I'm referring to is cuttin 30+ reports a night I'm looking for more of a LE job that allows me to actually help people and not be so stressed out about cutting so much paper and stupid politics that come with city pd and S.O.. I recently went to Bodega Bay and couldn't help but notice the park ranger on the beach was sitting there all day on the beach with a pair of binoculars I have to admit I was a bit jealous. I make great money now so the Walmart parking lot job reccomendation wouldnt pay the bills although im sure my street cred would increase a bit....Comment

I got to agree on the paperwork being part of the job; I spend more time writing reports than on the street. Things have changed since I first started.
But after close to 16 years on the job, I am too far down the road to not finish the race. In nine more years I can think of a second career without a lot more paperwork. If you make good money but still have the desire to work in LE, why don't you become a reserve? Still get to make good cash as your primary job but still get to have fun running and gunning.Comment

Remember that the State Park Rangers also see a lot of emergency medical action.
OP- Check this out, the city of LA has been trying to hire for Port Police Officer for a long time now- http://agency.governmentjobs.com/lac...FwddxPacket%3EComment

Hey Ostrey,
Try a Civil position in the SO or Marshals. Drive around and serve evictions and DV R/O's. Not a whole lot of paperwork except for a daily log.Comment

Most Marshal jobs have been absorbed into the SO. Clark County Nevada was recently hiring for Sheriff Deputy that does all of the serving, etc. (I know Metro is the lead LE in CC, NV, this is a different position)Last edited by surefire232; 08-05-2014, 11:43 PM.Comment
