Best Source To Buy X-26 Taser

    Greetings brothers,

I am sworn LEO have decided that I want to buy my own personal X-26 for duty use. If any of you guys have gone down this road, I' d appreciate any info on where you got it and any other leads that might be available. I really don't want to pay $900 - $1000 for one, which seems to be retail price.

    Thanks and be safe,
    BR

Contact Taser International. When I was ordering some for my unit, they told me they would sell to individual deputies at the LASD contract price. That was about 4 years ago.

You can go to the ISD Purchasing and Stores web site to get the contact info that deals with agency sales.

Try Ron's suggestions first. As a back-up plan and price check, Proforce has them for $855-$873 depending on the option.

The X-26 is being phased out and will not be in production at the end of this year, and they're selling them for cheap right now. Give them a call and see if they can work a deal! ...I'll go dig through my instructor account and see if I can find the notice. PM inbound.

Thanks for all the info gents. I actually want to get an X26 whether they are phasing them out or not. I know they work from personal experience and they are small and easy to carry. I will F/U on these suggestions, thank you.

Be careful of the X26s. Because of the placement of the battery we started having serious issues with the X26 (ie would not fire). What was happening was over time pressure and flex (from normal patrol/duty belt wear) on the handle and battery would deteriorate the battery connection to the device. Everytime the connection was broken from that poor connection, the taser would have to reboot. Kinda sucks when its rebooting while you're trying to tase a combative.

The X2s are a little bigger, but they fixed that battery issue.
Urban legends are a poor basis for making public policy.

Hate to threadjack, but I'd be a little concerned about using a personally owned Taser. Its definitely a good tool to have, and I admire your commitment to buy your own, but will the department cover you if you get sued for using it when a methhead croaks on you? Just a thought.

I appreciate the concern. It would be the same Taser we use at work and I've been through all the training. The only point of purchasing would be because sometimes there aren't enough to go around, or batteries are dead, etc. I see no issue there at all, but thanks.

We've had the same issues. The updated battery packs (or the very-MacGuyver'd 'shim' kit) are supposed to fix it, but mine still fails on about one time out of three on the pre-shift spark test.

Also, be aware that if it's rebooting like that, chances are that the internal clock/calendar is no longer accurate. If it's only rebooted once, then we can still figure out the correct info on a download, but if it's been more than once, it won't be accurate. The X26 is an excellent tool, when it's working right...but I am very averse to that model after our experiences. I'd love an X2.

I try to buy my own gear as well (almost own every piece of gear I have). That being said, a Taser, for the cost, is a piece of gear that I would rather the agency pay for and issue to me.

That being said, I understand your reasoning. I have seen them go used for 400-500 on officer.com before. Maybe check the classifieds there?

The responses in this thread have got me thinking about the long term reliability of the X26. I have seen quite a few of them with mechanical issues, but of course a lot of that is probably due to careless handling and being passed around from shift to shift. I do like the X26P and it seems to have significant improvements over the the original X26. I guess I will have to suck it up and pay close to 1K for one. Fun.

Our x26's are dying left and right. It's like they know to die just after the warranty expires. 5 years and they're all taking dumps. We literally have a big blue tote we throw the into when they die. We're about halfway through a department wide transition to the X2. X26's are no longer supported.

And, after 2014 is over, no more X26 replacements, since they won't be made anymore.
