    POST Basic Academy Study Material

I'm sure this has been posted on here before, but I wanted to find out if there's any good study material before I attend the academy. I should be starting in January, but wanted to get a head start on anything. Thanks!

LEO Code of Ethics, radio codes and whatever is in the academy recruit manual. Everything else from the LDs (learning domains) will require some explanation from an instructor. I would encourage you to spend more time working out as that's where most people have difficulties. Academics was the easy part and I wasn't the 4.0 GPA type in HS.

Know the alphabet phonetically...and don't be like one of the guys in my academy and memorize the military one!
Know the code of ethics and be able to recite it. Work on time management ideas, like getting all of your gear and uniform set up the night before, so you don't have to worry about it more than a double check in the morning on your way in! ...don't forget your boots in your gym bag, on the day when PT is first thing in the morning and you have to show up in PT gear. (yea, that was me)

Don't worry about the LD's (learning domains). Focus on the material in academy's 'recruit orientation' manual. It will have your speeches, required material (i.e. LE code of ethics, radio, penal, and vehicle codes needed to be memorize) and protocols.

Make sure you are keeping up on your PT. Running and high rep body weight exercises (push-ups, squat thrusts, mountain climbers, sit-ups and pull-ups).

Get your personal life squared away now. Living arrangements, pay bills, doctor/dentist appointments, etc....if you are going to a full time academy, you aren't going to have much free time.

Sit down and take a couple minutes/hours/days/months to decide if this is what you really want to do. You've got plenty of time to think it through.

If you decide that this is the right choice, the academy will just be an obstacle you need to overcome in order to get what you want.

I agree, do not study learning domains it will just create questions that will be answered down the line when your instructed on them. Learn your radio codes and any other info related to the department your going to be working for. Training manual, class sergeant commands, platoon sergeant commands, and what's to be expected of you during the academy. If you learn those things before starting the easier time you'll have will in the academy.
They may call on you to answer a few questions and once they realize they can't stump you they will move on to the next guy who can't answer those questions. And no matter what you will never be right when answering those questions. Just part of the game.
Like daorozco86 said don't be a fool while in your academy. Fly under the radar. Best advice I was given was show up early, do what you have to do, and go home. Don't get caught up in the b.s. Trust me you'll understand it once your there.

If you don't already......learn how to write in clear, proper English and how to formulate coherent sentences for report writing.

                    If you're 5 minutes early, you're 10 minutes late.

And don't be the "weak link" on your team that everyone else is having to cover for all the time. Team work doesn't mean someone else having to do 110% so you only have to 90%. The best way to support your team if to make sure you do your part....100%.....all the time.

Thanks for all the info. The pattern I see is very similar to how my personal life and my professional life is already. I've got an amazing shot at doing something I've wanted to do for a long while now, so I'm pretty excited about the chance I'm getting.
