Today's PSA: Don't be a moron

Why do we have so many stupid LEO's that leave ballistic vests, radios, $$ gear, police badges/uniforms, ammo, sensitive information, guns, etc in their cars parked outside their homes/empty office parks/etc just waiting to get stolen? And why do they act surprised when some knucklehead rips them off in the middle of the night? There's been quite a few in my neck of the woods lately and not a single LEO has had a good excuse for leaving such important kit in a location that is so easy to break into. My favorite excuse was "well, nothing had been stolen before so I thought it was okay."

So please, don't feed the criminals and leave important information or gear in a location easily accessible to them.

Now, on the lighter side I'll continue with another threads theme and leave with a joke:

How come the firefighter doesn't look out of his window in the morning?





So he can have something to do in the afternoon.

Based solely on the news story (if true), the only stolen items were left OUTSIDE of the lockers. Now, I haven't a clue if the locker room itself could be/was secured, but if not (not to mention janitorial and other staff would have keys anyway) then yes, those officers would also be morons.

Recently heard about an officer who got his house 459'd. He had his full duty belt, with his Glock 22 still in the holster (no idea why) just out in the open. Can you imagine how fast that stuff got sold off/traded for drugs?


My FTO told me many stories about how not to be moron but I think the one that sticks with me the most is "I don't ever want to hear you have to explain your off duty actions with a statement that starts with the phrase, 'I was at a bar and...' or 'I was drinking and...'"

Or the mens room at West L.A. courthouse. That guy is lucky I found it and walked it over to LAPD across the street.
