If the knife is carried on the belt and outside the waistband of your pants but obscured by clothing, say an untucked tshirt, loose fitting sweatshirt, etc., does this now make it a "concealled"? I own several small fixed blades that are ideal for appendix carry on the belt, but I'm reluctant to do so. Any insight or advice from the LEO's or knowledgeble fellow CalGunners?
I'm not sure I understand, but if the scenario is the knife is in a sheath on your belt but it is mostly/all covered by other clothing, yes, that would make it concealed.

Simply stated, if I am wearing a fixed blade knife on my belt and my shirt, jacket, sweater, etc. covers it in any way it is considered "concealed" and is illegal, correct?

[QUOTE=P5Ret;13920179]First off, be careful with that statement, what state law defines as legal, local ordinance may not....QUOTE]

Not to thread jack but this pertains to Oceanside's ordinances:

        Sec. 20.10. Weapons—Possession in public—Prohibited.
No person shall be or appear in any street, alley, sidewalk, parkway or any public place or place open to public view while carrying upon his person, or having in his immediate possession, any dangerous or deadly weapon.Sec. 20.10.1. Same—Same—Exceptions.
The restrictions contained in the preceding section shall not be deemed to prohibit the carrying of, or having possession of, ordinary tools or equipment carried by any person in connection with his trade, employment, business or profession, or for the purpose of legitimate sport or recreation.
I use my Kabar almost every day. whether it be to clean my nails or use it as a cutting tool, it gets used. is this to say that I can carry it? or because "im on liberty" i have no necessity to carry. Last time I checked Active duty military are...welll....active duty 24/7

the other confusing part is it says for the purpose of recreation...Can one not engage in recreating by just purely carrying a knife?

It may be of concern for some EDC knife carriers that there is actually a law against the carry of knives on school campuses (K-12). Penal Code Section 626.10 and it's various subsections detail what bladed items are restricted from primary school campuses and who is excepted from the rule.

I myself have never heard of a local case of a parent getting into any LE trouble when say going to a back to school night or picking their child up from school. From talking to some local school security guys they usually just ask the parents to take it to their car and come back. However, I work in a semi-rural county so probably not going to be the same in an urban environment.

For us it's usually the kids who "accidentally" bring their pocket knives to school who get cited for it.
