Thank you so much for the help! My friend did as you instructed, turns out, the weapon is clean and he is in the clear. Thanks to everyone else for their input, it has been greatly appreciated. You never stop learning new things on these forums.

He wasn't detained, given a rectal exam, had his dog shot while his house was searched by SWAT at 0400hrs, and then sentenced to prison by an out of control D.A., judge, and jury?

Surprisingly, no. It IS Los Angeles as well. I don't know if it was because the police were afraid of being sued, but it baffles me also.

Well, I am not 100% certain but I believe intrafamily transfers of handguns were not registered until the early 90's so assuming those handguns were transferred to you in the correct fashion prior to those dates (or even earlier, maybe 1990 for other handgun transfers) no violation occurred at any point in time.

FWIW, I wouldn't register them. If for some reason you feel something was "up" with them, get them ran by someone. I doubt they are stolen or known crime guns.

I suppose that my bestest wish would be to add the CZ to a future CCW if possible .. as the main thing...

Your call, of course. I don't carry family heirlooms for protection, but perhaps to you that makes the CZ all the more special. It protected your grandfather and now it can protect you. Kinda like those heirloom swords some Japanese had in WW2 (maybe some families still do?)..

LOL, interesting... I sold two of the Ariska's he gave me through FFL from GunAuctions and those transactions went without a hitch. They just took up valuable gun safe space. I still have a Rollingblock as well that I consider kinda wasting space.. but I can't seem to give that one up. Much more character than Ariska. Hierlooms are nice .. but if ole putin sends in the paras.. and you gotta go "Wolverines" ... can't be running around with a Rollingblock or Ariska. haha

Just an fyi, if you do decide to carry any of those heirlooms as ccw, you do need to complete the voluntary registration because the you may have issues if your carrying and have to use a firearm that is not registered to you.

Your welcome. I'm glad your friend was able to resolve the issue. Maybe this thread will be a good lesson to other CalGunners. Taking and using reasonable advice from a LEO often pays off just as predicted.

Many here forget that some of us have many decades of experience dealing with everyday problems. In reality there are very few situations we have not been involved with on multiple occasions. Generally doing the most simple and acting in a honest way pays off.

I've said it many times. Act like a victim or honest person and you will get the same treatment in return. ...Act like a suspect, and or lie and hide evidence you will be treated as such.

I actually traded a beat up maverick 88 that I got cash and carry in Georgia while I was stationed there, to another friend in the military for a case of beer and a pack of cigarettes before I moved back here.
