    Ohio Troop

Just curious. I most likely will be retiring from OSHP in the next 6 years due to my wife being relocated to CA. I will not continue my LE career and am reluctantly moving. Having said that, what kind of issues am I going to be dealing with being a retired Troop wanting to carry concealed anywhere in CA? It seems that CA is it's own country anymore and makes little common sense when it comes to firearms, thanks to your crack pot government. In addition I do collect and own many firearms, I am okay paying fees and will register whatever they want. Just trying to do the right think so I don't go nuclear on some agenda driven lib idiot. Thanks!!

As long as you are qualified under LEOSA, and keep up with the required annual qualifications, you will have no issues of any sort as it relates in CCW here in California. You will have to register your guns when you move to California, and you will not be able to bring in any full capacity magazines or what Califonia considers "Assault Weapons", but overall, it should not be too painful.

As a retired leo, ccw is not an issue as ling as you have your retired id card that states you are a retired law enforcement officer and your qualification is up to date.

Bringing in your gyns may be an issue depending on what you plan to bring. California has defined assault weapons in various forms and the rules are complicated. Even as a retired leo you still have to abide by the civilian rules for assault weapons. So up at the top of this website you can find a link to the insane assault weapons laws. If your weapons fall in to cat 1 then you cant bring them in unless you change the serialized receiver. If they are not part of the listed weapons then you need to make sure they fall into one of the two methods of making them legal.

Lastly, you cannot bring in any magazines over 10 rounds in to the state.

On a side note, if you do try to become a reserve officer with one of our lical departments then you can have magazines over 10 rounds and keep them for the rest of your life in california. You may wabt to look in to that. California leo's that like guns will go to a gun store and buy several magazines for guns they dont own but might have an interest in some day before they retire. Because ince we retire we no longer have the ability to buy any thing over 10 rounds. Love the weather but hate the stupid laws. Welcome to the state.

Welcome to CA, you'll fit right in.......with the small percentage of Americans who still live here.

I would let your wife move here and just visit her once in awhile. That way you maintain your freedom.
