Thoughts on John Scott, Interim L.A. County Sheriff

What do you current & former LASD guys think of John Scott taking the helm during the search for a new sheriff? What does it say that they didn't choose someone that is currently on the department?

I have a close friend on the OCSD command staff who's very pleased with him, FWIW.

What's up with Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas abstaining on the vote and not showing for the press conference introducing Scott? Do they have history or was Riddely-Thomas hoping for someone else to be picked?

I did not know him, but he has a good reputation for being fair and honest.

I don't know him either, so I can't offer anything there, but he will be going back to the OCSD after a new Sheriff is chosen/elected. The article in my paper today stated he is not applying for the position and will return as the OCSD Undersheriff. He is taking an unpaid leave of absence from OCSD.

I know him very well. I give him a thumbs up. Good man that is not after "normal" working employees. I hope he's able to drive out the majority of Tanaka's and Baca's "caca infested tumors" within the department.

For starters, I hope he $h!+ cans Steve "nit-wit" Whitmore as the civilian spokeshole for the dept. Then there's a guy near the top, brought in from the south that is absolutely arrogant and 5150. He needs to go too.

John Scott has over 30 years with LASD alone. He only went to OCSD with Sandra when he saw Baca torpedoing the dept. can't say that any of us blamed him for that move.

terry mcdonald should have Never been brought on board and needs to be kicked out ASAP! Hopefully Sheriff Scott will make that happen, and right away!

Anyone care to opine whether it will be worth trying to apply for a ccw permit while Sheriff Scott is in the seat?

How do you think all of this will impact hiring? Think they will go on another freeze or is a new sheriff so high up that it won't trickle down?

Last time i talked to an Lt, he told me they were still down about 800 so hiring will continue.

When I was a trainee at Carson Station, then Captain Scott, saw me quick stepping in the hallway and took time out to shake my hand and welcome me to the station. He seemed to be honest and sincere and most of the deputies at the station had nothing but good things to say about him. I hope he gets LASD back on track .

Issung ccw's will not be Scott's priority, if even a concern of his. His job is to chop heads and put the dept back on track before the elected sheriff takes the controls in Nov. Don't bother applying.
