Sims guns/Stress vests.

I run training for my small department. I had put in a request to acquire simunitions gear, which had been approved. My chief stated he felt that the stress vests were a better product, which is a laser activated vest that shocks the wearer when they are "shot". I've done a lot of Sims training and like it. I'm curious if any of you guys have used these Stress Vests, are they durable? They're very expensive.

I have used both. Personally, I think the simunitions is the better route. The stress vests have only certain areas that must be hit to activate the shock mechanism. The simunitions however, allow you to hit anywhere you aim (obviously). Also a great benefit to the simunitions that I think is invaluable is ammunition management. Not only do you have limited ammo, but you have to perform tactical reloads or emergency reloads. The stress vest guns is more like laser tag and allows to you just aim and pull the trigger to your hearts desire without giving ammunition or lack there of a second thought.

Also the simunitions get plugged up and jam a lot giving you real time practice with malfunction drills.

Sims do jam a lot. I hate when that happens in scenarios that the only outcome is to lose :-(

Sims!! True about jams, but your operators can practice malfunctions drills, all reality based training to me.

Simunitions are the way to go. Nothing is a better training aid for use of cover than a bunch of bleeding stars....

True story: first time through using them, we were doing active shooter training at an old school the county still owns. 4 man teams, T formation. Anyway, I made it through the day without being shot, besides a graze to my pant leg. My buddy was not so fortunate, taking friendly fire in the kidney from one of the guys on his search team.
