    Self defence question

    My family and I live in Antioch Ca My Brother was robbed last week with a knife My wife was held with a gun to her head while the man robbed the store.And her purse was ripped from her arms on a different occasion I feel That I always have to be on guard.

    Getting a ccw is out of the question since they aren't actually just handing them out here in contra costa county.

    Im thinking taser for self defence?And what are the consequences for tasing someone is it asault with a deadly weapon?

    Can I keep my Pistol in my car?

    And if I absolutely have to use it then what happens legally?

    Thanks in advance

    Taser is generally not 'deadly force' (though there are lawsuits on the point); self defense with one should not draw ADW. But assault with one outside self-defense -- PC 244.5
    (b) Every person who commits an assault upon the person of another with a stun gun or less lethal weapon, as defined in Section 16780, shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail for a term not exceeding one year, or by imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170 for 16 months, two, or three years.
    You can keep a handgun in your car, legally. But it must be unloaded and in a locked container. Since that means, if you think you need to use it:
    * go to your car,
    * find the container,
    * unlock the container,
    * load the gun,
    questions might be asked, such as 'why did you not drive away?'

      I avoid Antioch while off-duty because I don't need or want to get into a shoot out. Sheriff Livingston is not a bad guy and and you should at least talk with him about a CCW. Best advice though is to move out of that hell hole.

        You might not get a CCW but, you can take the classes and not only get a bit of training BUT, also learn the laws.

          Really the only reason i see to keep a pistol in the car (for us non-ccw holders) is for roadside emergencies or some sort of situation where you must abandon the car to get home (civil unrest).
          the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

            Pepper spray?

            Does PC 25610 (a)(2) provide a means to "poor mans CCW"? Meaning unloaded "concealed carry" since one actually has the unloaded firearm in a secure locked box on their person.

              Carry Sabre Pepper Spray and a decent size folder.... if funds allow than look at the newer Surefire Fury with the Tactical Bezel... That will shatter an eye socket and take it down to the white meat.

              or Move...

                (2) The firearm is carried by the person directly to or from any
                motor vehicle
                for any lawful purpose and, while carrying the firearm,
                the firearm is contained within a locked container.
                That's pretty limited.

                Pepper spray, as others have already noted, is at least clearly legal to carry.

                But this has drifted far from a LEO-type question, so closed.
