Also, I just saw it on the 11pm news on ABC. They reported the LA Times is reporting this.
IIRC, there is no Undersheriff since he forced Tanaka out. IIRC also, there is now 3, instead of 2 Assistant Sheriffs. I can't recall if I am correct about the preceding, but I believe is correct. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. If Baca does resign, it will be interesting to see if the Board of Supervisors appoints one of them as an interim Sheriff until the election or goes outside the dept. to find one.
ETA: I was incorrect and was advised via pm there are 4, not 3 Asst. Sheriffs. McDonald came from Corrections, Rhambo and Hellmold are from within LASD and I don't know anything about Rogers.
Ron, I would think since he is resigning (if he does), the Board won't allow that due to the reasons for his resigning. Plus, that might actually hurt that person if he or she intended to run for Sheriff this year due to a stigma being attached to Baca. It will be interesting to see how it develops. The idea that he might resign never even came to me. I was hoping for him to be defeated in the election as repudiation.
