    Traffic Court

What is your approximate win/loss rate in traffic court. Not including dismissals in the interest of justice... Be honest!

Depends on the location. Ventura county, it is near impossible to get the ticket dismissed.

Only lost one and I really wanted to say something to the judge about his reasoning. Common sense dictated that wouldn't be smart.

Citation was for parking along the red curb, which was posted no parking, fire lane, with the code. The apt. complex had complained to the station due to the number of accidents occurring when people pulled away from the red curb area. There was a curve in the road just before the red curb area.

The person cited said he was only in the red a little bit. The judge asked me how much and I said I recalled it being a foot or two. He said dismissed. My thinking was, that is like being a little pregnant. You are either pregnant or you are not. You either parked in the red or you didn't and he admitted to being in the red. I decided it wouldn't go well for me if I said that to the judge tho.

I did not write many tickets and never lost one. I only recall seeing one officer lose while I was in TC.

Around here, things must be different. It seems like people are found not guilty/cites dismissed ALL the time.

Probably about 98% guilty rate and a 100% win rate. Even if a subject was found not guilty, I know that I wrote a good ticket, the person still had to show up go through the trouble of making up a story for the judge in court and I still get paid. It's a win no matter what.

All tickets have been convictions although sometimes a lenient judge will waive the fine.

I lost 2 in my 4+ years in patrol. In both cases, the judge felt sorry for the defendant and dismissed the cases. I was not very happy about it.

I had 2 found not guilty years ago, thats it..probably been to traffic court 20times. Now with in-car-cameras its a no brainer, video tells all.

Depends on the judge, and type of citation. Fix-it ticket and failure to appear? Well, that's an obvious one. All depends if it's a mover or fix-it, and the judge of course.
