Selling off roster pistol by an LEO

I bought a Ruger LCP (GEN1), soon after learned about GEN2 with bigger sights. Bought it too .

I talked to my FFL about selling my first LCP , which I bought there about 3-4 months ago .

I was told that its too soon for me to sell it and that I may have problems.(???)

Do You have to hold an off roster handgun for 6 months or a year before You can sell it or trade it ?.

NOPE. FUD. You can sell a pistol whenever you want, but you are limited (as a non dealer) to 5 sales transactions per calendar year. Each transaction however, can be any # of guns. That's the only limit, LEO or otherwise.

Your advantage over non LEO is your ability to PURCHASE off roster without SSE exemptions.

PPT sales can happen anytime. If you need to ship however, that's not a PPT and the buyer needs to be LEO or the receiving FFL needs to do an SSE on it.

Disclaimer IANAL nor am I LEO.

Disclaimer 2 - Though there are no state laws requiring hold-times as stated, individual departments / organizations CAN implement individual internal rules regarding sales by officers to non LEO, and CAN include mandatory hold times sales limits. To be absolutely sure, you should check department memos and such to ensure you are complying with internal department rules. (See LAPD SWAT / Kimber debacle)
