Yep!
Read that in the paper this am...
"Bruen, the Bruen opinion, I believe, discarded the intermediate scrutiny test that I also thought was not very useful; and has, instead, replaced it with a text history and tradition test." Judge Benitez 12-12-2022

Newsworthy ?
Typical with LA Times sensationalism, the headline fails to capture the context of the article. Similarly, the misleading photo illustrates the person they make a living demonizing, while lacking relevance. The basis of the made-up scandal is the incorporation of the LA County Safety police into the Sheriff's Dept, and a handful of sub-standard employees. The underlying false premise is the comparison of these previous County employees, to the standards of new hires.
Ever pick up 290 employees without a few slackers? Of course the LA Times would never attempt to positively convey the massive administrative challenge this undertaking was, or it's successes, or possibly the benefits to the taxpayers. Just more shameful pandering to their liberal base. The Tribune Co's recent cut of 700 jobs is a great step in the demise of the old media.Comment

We Calgunners did a lot to almost get Susan Shelley elected - now its time we turn our sights toward the sheriff's office!
Bob Olmstead looks to be the best candidate in the upcoming election. Start spreading the word now, and lets get the crooks out of the LASD.
*I am in no way affiliated with Bob Olmstead, other than being a supporter - he seems like our best chance to start getting CCWs issued in La County.Comment

I'm no fan of the Times, and some of the info they used was illegally obtained because of California privacy laws concerning employment, but they kind of hit the nail on the head.Typical with LA Times sensationalism, the headline fails to capture the context of the article. The incorporation of the "County Police" was not something LASD was looking forward to, because of the low standards of that agency, which was troubled for years. The LASD wasn't "required" to hire any of them, and shouldn't have hired any of them, but due to the size of the responsibility being taken on, they had to take some just to maintain the contract.
The "County Police" changed names several times over the years and included LA County Park Patrol, County Hospital Police, and security positions covering county buildings, welfare offices, etc. None of them had a decent reputation among other law enforcement agencies for years. The "Park Patrol" was jokingly referred to as the "Playground Safety Monitors"
The LA County Office of Public Safety was a joke. Most positions merited nothing more tan a security officer for staffing.
As someone who spent 32.5 years with LASD, I agree. I do not personally know him, but his reputation within the Department was outstanding. He was known as a straight shooter, approachable and honest. We Calgunners did a lot to almost get Susan Shelley elected - now its time we turn our sights toward the sheriff's office!

No matter the agency you go to there is always going to be bad apples. Its sad to say but I know guys that were consistent substance abusers and admitted to it in their background packets while going through the background process. and they got hired with LASD as well. It honestly bothered me knowing I have lived a clean life and worked hard for the honor of having the badge while others just simply got hired, as if no one even looked at their files. No matter what, lets think of the hundreds of good deputies and officers we know that have never been recognized. those we know we could trust our life with.Comment

Yup.
I don't think Tanaka was the bad boy he likes people to believe he was with the Viking nonsense. A lot of that was inflated by the press and guys trying to strut their stuff.
Tanaka is a crook by means of his "fundraising" efforts for Baca and friendship from the Asian community. Also he is a spiteful and vindictive man. If you crossed him, you could count on retribution. He was a "fast climber" thru the ranks and didn't care who he stabbed in the back on the way up.
Waldie was a "good ol' boy" who was detained in San Francisco and another city on "John Stings" and several times for DUI but nothing ever happened to him. Rumor was that he had too much dirt on Baca for Baca to to anything.
Glad they're both gone.LASD Retired

IIRC, I remember reading Star News articles penned by Paul Tanaka when he was a sergeant (could have been before he made sergeant but I'm not sure when he started writing those articles). And in those articles, he often ragged on one guy in particular (not gonna mention his name but I believe he's now an LT) for his prowess at "cheeking" and giving him the title of "cheekmeister". Kinda ironic considering how he himself ended up as US...Comment

Perhaps after the election next year, that can be extended to glad all 3 are gone even tho I have to say I never had one problem with Waldie when he was our Capt. He even told me good job for an off duty incident I was involved in.Yup.
