    LAPD SIS?

I was watching training day 20th time on Spike. (Sounds cliche) Alonzo ( Denzel) mention's that some of the guys are being transferred to SIS. Apparently they are the cream of the crop, seems like they do alot of " felony hot stops" and take downs?

I could only find limited info. Are they really as good as their made out to be?

    Found this article:

"All that is complex is not useful. All that is useful is simple."

They are also known as the Shadow Unit.

They were training down at Pendleton last month. Great squad. They took heat cause they would wait for their targets to commit a violent crime instead of stopping them and just getting them on some petty "role back" crap. Obviously to send them up for years instead of months.

I heard the same. Was also told that there was a point in time when LASD wouldn't work with them, or roll to their containments because of their "tactics."

Don't shoot the messenger. Just sharing what I was told. My partner's father, who is a retired Dept member told him. He in turn shared it with me one day at work.

In turn, I passed it on. I personally don't care either way. Never met or worked with anyone from SIS. I'm just a lowly patrol Deputy. No cool titles or toys for me. Just a plain old black & white.

I've heard rumors about there not being a lot of love between LASD and LAPD.
                    True or not, I don't know, ....

But you can buy a special Kimber made "SIS" model 1911....
The one and only article I read about SIS specifically mentioned surveillance being their thing.

Not true. A friendly rivalry if anything. Almost like big brother, little brother.

They get along super well. Ever watched colors?

LAFD vs LAPD on the other hand. Yikes!

                          First, I agree with Gnome.

Prior to CJ making a makeshift racquetball court in the gym, a bunch of us used to go to their academy and play frequently. We were always treated well. Good people.

We were with the LAPD in the staging area during the 1984 Olympics and everyone got along great. Heck, I even bought some le Olypmic pins from one of their motors. Years later I read about him in the spa and prostitutes scandal. I wonder if the value of the pins increased because of that.

Re rivalries/bad blood, a couple of my partners semi-recently took a week long training course hosted by OC Sheriff at their academy. From what they debriefed, some of the OC guys over there in their training staff have huge freaking sticks up their asses about LASD training - talking about how awesome they were and how crappy LASD training was and disregarding and belittling anything/everything my partners had to say when participating in the class. Basically doing everything you're Not supposed to do when it comes to teaching (Basic Instructing 101).

Over the years, I've taken numerous training courses hosted by LAPD (including the same weeklong course that my partners just took) and have had nothing but great experiences with LAPD's training staff and the LAPD officers/supervisors that were in my classes.

They way I see LAPD is that they are almost a mirror reflection of us when it comes to people/organization - some great people, some decent people, some crap people - just some different policies/procedures/headaches.

I thought all the bad blood between LASD and LAPD kind of went away after the "How to identify a Deputy Sheriff" video got out into the wild.
