I am not LEO. But try thinking in these terms- if you are asked a direct question such as "Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of a paramilitary organization?" Will your truthful answer be incriminating? I think signing a liability waiver to do a rappelling course is no different than if you did the same course at the YMCA or signed a waiver to participate in a Tough Mudder. -
Thanks. I see no police are commenting makes you wonder lolComment

I am an LEO. I'd pass on joining a militia if you're looking at a LE career. They may be totally cool and all that, and it's great to be with people who have the same views and likes as you, but it may be seen as extreme in the eyes of an employer. And in this day and age where jobs are harder and harder to come by, that can make the decision to nix you from a hiring process all that easier. Go for the job, I guarantee once you get it and get to a duty station, you'll find some cool co-workers with the same likes and such as you. Just my $.02.Comment

I can't really say one way or other other. Why not the California State Military Reserves?
Urban legends are a poor basis for making public policy.Comment

You need to understand the LEO background process and the perception of those at the top in command whom ultimately give you the okay. Most LEO's including myself, hold conservative views and are pro-gun. As you go further up the rank, particularly with chiefs and sheriffs, you no longer are a cop (in many cases) and are now a politician so they must drink the liberal Kool-aid given to them by the Board of Supervisors and City Managers and Councils.
When anything such as "Militia " pops up, even though these are great Americans whom I fully support and are the people I least worry about if the stuff hits the fan, you will be looked at closely and possibly passed over. Having been involved in the hiring process, this is my personal opinion based on similar issues like this which I have seen. It's safer to move on to the next candidate then to have a chief or sheriff be accountable if a real crack-pot does slip through the process knowing this came up in background (not insinuating that about you).
I'm not sure how much lower the standards are for fed jobs, which I think are lower because management accountability is much more broad unlike a city or county, so you may be okay.Comment

Anything with mil...a, clan, club, tribe. Stay away, far away. If it doesn't bite you now, it will later.
You are/will be joining a group that "may", "may" be potentially against big brother. What do you think? Is that cool?Comment

If you are talking about the CA State Military Reserve which is called the State Guard in other states, is one thing. You can look them up on the internet. Similar to the Army National Guard but they do not deploy outside the state.
Now you talking about the clowns who dress up in cammies and run around the woods like in Michigan and Texas, look it up, you might be asking for trouble.
YMMV, JMHO

There are some weird videos on Youtube. I am referring to the Northern California State Militia; Website is Modern Militia Movement. There are some pretty crazy Youtube videos saying not to join...and take it one step further to say its even demonic lol.
Anyway, found this video when I was browsing:

Being a leo and constitutionalist I'm all for the type of militia you speak of. But, unfortunately if you're trying to get a leo job I could see that hurting you when they do you're background check. Wait until after you get your job and clear probation.Comment
