If you are already in good shape then don't overdo it and risk injury. It never hurts to study the penal & vehicle codes. Don't get too down in the weeds, just stick to the basic stuff that is commonly encountered in the field.

If you are starting a month before the academy, and it is anything like my department, it is not for polishing and getting ready. They expect you to do that on your own time. We use pre-academy hires for admin work and any sort of as-needed details which may have nothing to do with the academy or police work whatsoever. Answering phones, making copies, running errands, filing, etc.

I kind of figured I would be used in that kind of capacity. However, I was told that PT would be a regular part of my day.

Best advice was already given. I'll emphasize exercise. Weightlifting is meaningless at this point. Instead focus on pushups, pullups, core strength & Lotsa running.

Learn your 10-codes, become very familiar with the California Penal Code & Vehicle Code.

Go into it ready to hit the accelerator & put everything else in your life on the back burner.

Heard that, It helps that I have been working the 911 system in the county I got hired for 3 years as an EMT as well as living here most of my life. I'll definitely be looking at the map still.
