My Dept replaced my vest about a year ago, and I still have my old one.

If your significant other goes shooting with you they have a vest to wear too. When I go to a public range to shoot I like to wear a vest. If some cops are unsafe with firearms, what about the general public

I have a panel from an old vest in my back pack. It is my "spine pad' if anyone ever asks....
It has traveled around the world and I have never had any airport screener ever ask a single question....
They also make for a decent dry practice target. Put it up when you dry practice and take it down when practice is over.Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

You can wear it during tactical drills, Physical Training, and on the range.
Body armor can change a lot of the mechanics of how you shoot. Arms may not be able to move as close together, upper torso is less mobile, you may not be able to get as low on the ground as you expect, etc.
Your center of gravity is also altered by the addition of the extra weight.Commitment to service. For community. For country.Comment

Also keeps you warm, and keeps rocks from digging in to your back, when you have to lay on the ground on the side of the road at night to work on a broke down truck in the middle of winter...

I gave an old vest to my daughter for her 8th grade science project. We filmed her shooting it with several different pistols then had her describe the difference in damage and penetration.
It was a good test to the effectiveness of the vest but the best part was the reaction of the super lib teacher. He wanted to mess with her over it but had enough sense not to.Comment

I suppose you could keep it in your car for that worst case senario situation where you might need it off duty. Sew a big POLICE patch on the front and back of the carrier so cops know you're a good guy.If you buy anything because it has "tactical" or "operator" in the name, we probably don't run in the same circles.Comment

The helmets aren't meant to stop bullets...they are designed to stop shrapnel and reduce blunt force trauma injuries to the head. There have, however, been several cases of rounds hitting the helmets and being deflected...Comment
