Friday was our annual Departmental BBQ for retired Deputies, D.A. Investigators and their wives. Prior to the festivities, the Dept. opened up the range to requal those interested in their HR 218 CCW. Range Masters and Ammo were also provided. I brought my Glock 23 and my S&W model 37 airweight "belly gun". I have to admit that my 64 year old eyes were challenged with the 2" snubby, but all went well. I recently installed a set of Warren Tactical sites with a red fiber optic front site on the G23. Made a big difference. Note to young officers who carry 2" revolvers - get a Tyler T-Grip adapter. Huge improvement in gripping the little guns.
So, on to the BBQ. Saw a lot of friends and Deputies from the past. Probably 100 plus. The oldest was a Commander who retired in 1970! Good for him - live long and beat the County out as much retirement money as possible!
The food was Tri Tip, Chicken, chili beans , salad, garlic bread, and beverages all served up by the Command Staff. The stories and memories were great. The only down side was the roll call of Deputies who passed away over this past year. I guess some day they will be reading my name also.
Anyway it was a great day spent with good friends and fellow warriors - past and present.
Be safe out there.
