No I tested lots of materials even clear. This material is UL listed and very rigid. It catches the bullets like a vest. I did not want it to fragment the bullet or ricochet.

This material is not super light but the shield is small enough that it is not to heavy. It is 5 pounds which works great to absorb the energy of the rounds.Comment

I am not sure if this is an advertisement or what, but $250 for a body armor insert is really expensive.Comment

Heres my 2 cents.. If I have time to deploy this shield, I should have time to drive away, draw, or even get out of my car if I have to! Second, how much does it weigh? Anyone who has worked with shields knows they get heavy after a while. If they are lightweight, what is the affect on the Officer who is holding this thing and taking rounds, will the bullets impact move the shield. Not that I advocate lying down in the car, but under fire you may have to. Most of the new cars today have ballistic panels in the doors.
I commned you on your efforst to save lives.Comment

I think it has merit to the idea, think your going to need to attempt to sell it more to agencies than to individual officers. As I could see officers liking the idea but the idea of taking the shield in and out of the patrol unit at the begining and end of the shift could make it where officers don't like doing that.Comment

Thanks for you input John I'm sure a lot of people will fill the same. My design is meant to be used with all of the actions you talked about. The shield can be drawn at the same time as putting the car in gear, drawing your weapon or getting out. The shield just gives you a much better chance of stopping a round headed for your upper body. As for ballistic door panels. My friends car had them but not one round hit the door panel they were shooting at the windows.Comment

I know the City of Fresno Police Department is under creditible threats to there officers of being ambushed, they may be a agency that you could approach with this idea. Fresno PD is so concerned that calls that normally send 2 officers or so the department is sending 4 to 5 units into certain areas. Over the years they have had several officers take fire from unknown shooters into patrol units driving down the streets. May have to give them a free trial one but could pay off alot in the long run. I think Fresno PD has 400 units so there could be a big advantage here.
Another area to think about that may actually make more sense to more officers would be something like this for a motor officer. Basically a motor officer is so exposed in every situation, I could see a motor officer using something designed like this for cover on a routine basis such as felony vehicle stops, or other situations.Comment

Thanks benjamin101677. I hope to move in that direction. I live in an area that most departments provide take home cars.Comment

OpSec.
Just know that if myself and my TO are ever ambushed, there will be well aimed controlled fire towards our enemy or enemies. I pity any ******* who tries it. I have no illusion of being bullet proof or highly skilled, I just have a strong will to live.
That being said, common sense and situational awareness applies.sigpicComment

I like your design and idea. If your smart you could market it right and get your product out there. I would contact various agencies in your area and give out free samples. It might catch on.Comment
