Um...accidents happen sometimes. Not everything is a threat.
From what I understand; friend is working on car, customer is not happy, mechanic notices a gun in the customers pocket and craps himself, then the customer identifies himself as a deputy (probably to ease the mechanics concerns). His mechanic friend took it as a threat.
That's the best I could do with that post, now I got a headache. -
Boy, I have a headache, too! However, I think that the bottom line answer to the question (?) is....yes, police officers do deal with civil matters, but usually only in an advisory manner. I'd even add that....the police officer or Sheriff's deputy, who was possibly off-duty (?) was out of place for handling the civil matter. It should have been handled by a uniformed LEO, and documented on their daily log/field activities report.Comment

Cops can carry off duty if that was your question.
"to show off a gun like that during a civil thing and you are off duty is it ok and not again the law?"
Since the officer didn't intentionally "show off a gun" I don't see any violation. Maybe a department policy violation, but not a penal code. Pretty good observation by your friend by the way!
"because my friend was so affair, feel threat and freaked out....I don't know and would like the LEOs tell me is that should or should not in a civil situation like that. Thanks everyone and God bless."
Just conduct business as normal. No reason to freak out at all. Sounds like your friend did just fine.Comment

Holy hell! I got a massive headache trying to make heads or tails of your post. Like others have stated, LEOs can carry off duty without a permit. If he was "not mad or mean", where did the feeling of threat come from? It doesn't seem like he was intentionally showing off his gun so I don't see what the issue is.
Also, Deputy Sheriff's don't normally get involved in civil matters unless there is a criminal element involved.Last edited by StraightShot04; 08-17-2013, 6:17 PM.Comment

I still think my original reply to the OP accurately portrays a valid question... A lack of clarity and what appears to be the use of auto-correct with negative consequences has caused great confusion when trying to read what exactly it is the OP would like an opinion on.
It doesn't sound like anyone intentionally showed off any kind of handgun, it sounds like the shop owner got the customer to do what he was saying he wanted the unsatisfied customer to do (get a LEO on scene), and I have no idea why he felt threatened based on your post. Would he have been more threatened if the person was another shop owner with a CCW? A thug with no CCW? And why is it that he feels this deputy was intervening in a civil affair? Was he the customer's son? Brother? Husband? Translator? Friend? Why did the actions taken by this person suddenly becoming threatening simply because they are a deputy?Last edited by CBR_rider; 08-18-2013, 3:38 AM.Stay classy, CGF and Calguns.Originally posted by bwiese[BTW, I have no problem seeing DEA Agents and drug cops hanging from ropes, but that's a separate political issue.]Comment

Cops can carry open or concealed it does not become a violation of the law until it is drawn without being in a situation where deadly force might be necessaryComment

For all you know it could have been his car, or as others have mentioned a family member. He did not think the price given for the repair was fair. Your friend got his panties in a knot, because an off duty deputy was carrying a gun, perfectly legal, and didn't say "hey I'm a cop I have a gun" before hand.First he did not state he is a sheriff in the first place until the guy ask: if you want to call the cop. Just say someone come to your place, your home
disagreement about something with you, he carry a gun in his pocket -with out saying : I am a cop a sheriff ... then how do you feel? put yourself in that place...
Anyway, thanks for all the inputs , especially the one making fun of my English...for me it is not a big deal. I will delete this post.
I can only speak for myself, but I don't and didn't announce to whoever that I have a gun on me just for the hell of it. Sounds like a bad idea, and saying you have a gun could possibly be taken more as a threat than anything you mentioned in the original post.Comment
