Oral panel interview

UPDATE: Since my last post more than 3 months ago, I've passed both my PAT and oral board interview. I've turned in my PHS packet and just waiting for backgrounds to call me.

Question: How long is the wait time before BI contacts me for the next phase? I've been waiting for a month now and btw, this is for SFPD.

It depends on the Agency. Some agencies get on the background process really quick other agencies take there time. It is not unrealstic to think that the background may take 2 to 4 months depending on the number of opening and number of applicants and number of background investigators.

If I were you I would try and find somebody in the SFPD that has been through the process last couple years so that they can kinda give you a time table. Also won't be a bad idea if SFPD allowed ride a longs to attempt to do a ride a long so you can learn more about the department and stuff in the event that you proceed to a Chief's type interview.

Also just because your far along with this agency's process don't forget to continue to apply for any agency that you are able too. Worst thing that happens if you get hired by both and get too choose.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. The hiring process takes time, some agencies it can be up to a year. Put your applications in to other agencies and don't be afraid to go out of state.

There are some very good agencies in Nevada and Arizona. Seems to me they fight real crime there. In CA, the state legislature is increasingly passing laws aimed squarely at law abiding citizens with the intent of making as many people convicted felons as possible.

SFPD hires in groups for entry levels to fill an upcoming academy if they get the funding. They are mostly taking experienced laterals right now from some of the once great surrounding city agencies. SFPD is a great place to work and you don't take a lot of BS paper.
