Buy a cop a coffee?

That's the scenario i was trying to avoid. To anyone wondering why I'd buy an officer a drink, I have worked with several officers over the years. They've got a tough, generally thankless job. When most of the folks you come in contact with resent you and are scumbags I can understand becoming jaded. I appreciate the job they do and figure a drink is a very small token of appreciation.

Yep, baseball cap or nothing. I am extremely glad that our department does not have any sort of regular headgear for patrol duty.

I've been known to drop off coffee to cops
On occasion, (there have been a few) some issue that has road blocks, or yellow tape type scenes, I've dropped one or two of the big party jugs of coffee from Starbucks. Haven't had that turned down yet

Down in San Diego for Comic Con last week, I bought drinks for a bunch of Navy SEALs and Marines who ran The Walking Dead Escape obstacle course with me at Petco Field as a gesture of thanking them for serving. As for LEO, especially the local ones in the Bay Area, they can all go "F" themselves.

Wow! I guess everyone has different experiences. On my job I have worked with officers from san mateo, San Jose, Hayward, Oakland, San Francisco, correctional officers and parole agents. They have all been really good people and by virtue of their direct involvement with the dregs of society, tend to be fairly conservative. This goes for men and women that I have worked with. There are a lot of great stories to be heard and conversations to be had. They have all been supportive of my gun habit! The only time I have been on the wrong side of the law I deserved it, speeding ticket!

For those of you guys who say no baseball caps, try losing a few of those hats after a foot chase. Caps are cheaper to replace.

If it was a military person i would have no problem buying them a cup of coffee for there service but LEO really, why? for what.

I have had it done to me. Our guidance is is not worth disrespecting the citizen and it fosters good will. Now, rolling into 7-11 expecting a free java is a whole nuther sitchi-mu-cation.

A simple thank you and some idle conversation makes both parties feel validated. No reason to make a stink outa it.

Cops and cab drivers used to get free coffee at many convenience stores, encouraged them to come around more often made for safer working conditions for the most dangerous occupation. Convenience store employee. Ne'er do wells hanging around would be encouraged to get a ride from the cab drivers when they would see the cops pull up.

This is the way I feel about it. We had a strict no Gratuity policy before I retired. I followed the rules but, If a Citizen wanted to buy a cup of Coffee, there was no sense disrespecting the Citizen and refusing it or causing a stir in the Coffee shop over it. It makes a nice person feel good. Have a short chat with them and thank you keeps good community relations.

Management was okay with that.
