    NCIC records question

I have always heard, "unless your FFL has gone out of business, the info on your 4473 won't get into Federal hands."

While channel flipping, I saw a segment of a show on Sherriffs in northern CA getting ready to serve a search warrant. During the briefing, the CO mentions during the briefing: "Regarding the owner, NCIC popped up with about 150 firearm hits. We expect to find a large amount of firearms at this residence."

I'm assuming the NCIC is the National Crime Information Center http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/doj/fbi/is/ncic.htm

Anyone care to share what kind of info is in there? I'm guessing if you've done a 4473 you're in the Federal NCIC database?

I dunno. The only NCIC record I've ever seen on firearms was on guns reported stolen.

Might have been some pogue using big words to impress the camera and actually referring to AFS records, but I've never seen those associated by address, just by an individuals name.

It wouldn't be the first time someone was pimping for the camera.

      I would bet it's AFS.

I worked for a couple years in a gun store prior to going into law enforcement. During my Background Interview my BI had a list of all my handguns (registered in CA) but nothing else.

When I was working for the store, if a long-gun was used in a crime we got a letter from ATF telling us to look up the serial number and to whom it was sold...They have to backtrack all the way from the manufacturer to distributer to dealer to purchaser then they have to contact the purchaser and ask to whom they sold the gun...and on and on.

I was showing a trainee how our unit's CAD work and had him run the serial number on my personally owned duty weapon. It came back showing me and my home address at time of purchase.

Long arms are not. So I tell everyone to have pictures or at least the serial numbers of all you firearms written down. If they are stolen the police can recover them.

I would imagine he meant AFS. Guy coulda misspoke or said ncic instead so tv viewers would get the gist of what he was saying(some database had they guy listed as owning many firearms). Very few people would know what AFS means
