Serious question

He/she is interested in pursuing the path of Law Enforcement, but they were told by someone close to them "wait till you get to your backround invest", ie: their trying to destroy ones pursuit. What are the repercussions for this person giving false information to a backround invest?

Just tell your BG what was said and your concerns. Your BG will always find someone who doesnt like you. Dont worry about it. You cant win em all.

What is being withheld and why? It's best to be up front about everything. Some things don't need much detail, but omissions are treated as lying.

X2 on the BG investigator finding someone that doesn't like you. You can't be alive long enough to become a cop and not piss off someone. A good BG investigator will likely see right through someone's lies.

This is accurate. I had a pretty clean background and was surprised when my BGI advised me my high school football coach had said a lot of negative things about me and stated I would not be a good candidate. Obviously they looked past it and 15 years later I'm still doing fine in my career.

Anyone with an ex-wife knows you can pass a background even though you have haters.

My psych lady said someone I listed as a reference said I was a turd and would make a terrible leo. So what? You will get complaints, get sued, get yelled at, get told your not doing your job etc etc. Your BG will note it. It wont be a career ender. This job is hard to get and even harder to keep. If you give up this easily then it might not be for you. Keep trying until your told by every dept in the state/ US no way no how. my 2 cents.

I have pretty thick skin. However, when your dealing with "vindictive" people like this, you never know what bs they will say.

No you dont but also you will never actually know because your background is private to the dept and they will tell you nothing about it, including who talks bs about you.
