College Grades, Background?

What effect do grades have during the background for most departments? I know it will vary from agency to agency, but what is a deal breaker if any?

In my experience it has little/no bearing whatsoever. I provided my hs and college transcripts to my background investigator and we never spoke about my grades. A couple months later I got "the call".

Hm, thanks I'm worried if I ever make it into backgrounds because long story short online classes aren't suited for every subject. They also require a reliable computer that cont go down during a final! so yeah I have some explaining to do if asked heh.

Generally: not much. Transcripts are for proof you got a degree or X number of units to make some minimum/cut-off/ed bonus/etc. POST doesn't specify a GPA for any certs.

The final degree or certification is what matters most.

An agency may ask about grades if it indicates a possible question in the background which needs clarification, but those are rare instances and usually do not lead to de-selection.

The reason they want to see grades is that way they know you took classes. People have used bogus college diplomas to get ahead. The most recent story I heard was the "I graduated from UC San Diego" and provided a UC Santa Barbara diploma.

I was told by my bg before I got hired as long as its not C's and D's you should be fine. I nearly failed highschool, got horrible grades all throughout and i never once was asked about it

As long as your transcripts and records don't show expelled or multiple suspensions, I wouldn't worry too much. But if they gave you an "F" in P.E. you may want to think about another line of work

I did as well, just went through the motions not knowing which way to go but showed up and did enough at the end of the semesters to get by except in industrial arts and sciences.
