I had my final ccw interview with the Chief of Police at a small PD. The Chief ask me if I wanted to be a cop.

He was probably being sincere and recognised that you had the attributes of the type of Officer he would hire, (after he learned of your background and the fact that you shared your critical incident expereince).
Wait a week or two, call him and ask if his offer still stands.
Congrats on the CCW. Be sure you carry the correct holster for your application,(your L/E friends should lend a hand with this).
Now enroll in a few tactical firearms classes and ALWAYS practice like you carry.
IMHO, We need more trained and proficient civilian CCWs on the street.Comment

As to your original question, depends on when it took place in the interview and in what context. What preceeded the question? Where was the conversation going? Maybe he was asking to see if he was giving a permit to someone who might try and play vigilante or want to "play cop"Ah the whole interview was a just get to know you thing it was a personal "hello" I'm the chief giving you a permit....be cautious do's and dont's pep talk. He towards the end of the meeting after finding out I am a nurse and I shared my personal experience of being shot point blankComment

Yeah conversation was flowing he asked me what i did for a living then popped the question. He does not give out ccw's liberally as I applied in October 12' and recieved it May 13'. I forgot to mention they were interviewing and have open positoin for academy grads...Galt PDLast edited by b_madeiros; 06-12-2013, 9:18 AM.Comment

LOL No I am a nurse I save people lives and get a rush when people go into cardiac arrest and I know what to do to save them....but I have considered going into correction at point in my life just didn't want to lock my self in prison to earn a paycheck. I have never played cop or even considered joining before. I am just pondering the opportunity if there is even one? My cousin said the Chief has the authority to push people through POST and waive certain requirement although rare... after looking into the training length of the academy its not likely something I could do right now.Comment

It sounds like you have a rewarding and important career now and that is your calling. You're lucky to have that. My guess is that the Chief wasn't necessarily saying you'll get hired but rather was inviting you to start the process as a guy who he thinks would be a great candidate. It's flattering, none the less.Comment
