    Academy question POST

I've asked this question before with discouraging responses yet I'm determined. I understand non sponsored the academy is expensive and time consuming as well. Will this academy satisfy a POST certificate many agencies require to apply?

So far my testing options are limited of course because I don't posess a basic POST Certificate.

    Thank you

Graduating from an academy does not get you a Basic POST, it does give you a certificate of completion of a POST Basic academy. To get the Basic POST cert you need to complete FTO and probationary period. That said the academy completion can give you a leg up in applying places and some openings are for "pre-service" which is what you would be with a successfully completed academy.

The CA POST website has pretty much all of the information you need to understand the different certificate levels.

Sean Casey is correct. If I'm not mistaken, I believe even without a POST login you can check out the jobs sections of the POST website.

As has already been said it is not a Basic certificate, it will give you a completion certificate that is good for 3 years from issue date (someone correct me if it has changed). Most agencies will accept that for an entry/lateral position. So the answer to your question is yes unless the agency wants a Basic certificate.

Has anyone heard good or bad things about this academy or is a certificate a certificate...?

As someone who put them-self through an academy and got picked up by an agency. It is a leap of faith so to say. These days there are so many people out there who have their academy certificate, agencies don't have to spend the money to send them. If police is where your heart is put yourself through bc getting picked up by an agency is rare these days. Unless you go to a bad city with bad benefits to get your foot in the door.

Depends on the agency. I know a guy that started my class with an agency, they dropped him, about half way through, because he was not staying in the top 10. He self sponsored the rest of the way and graduated. He was picked up shortly after graduation, but had to attend another academy for that particular agency!

South Bay Regional runs the academy's in San Mateo as well as the one in Santa Clara or at least they did. I went through several in service classes with them. They are as good as anyone else. It realistically comes down to which one you can get into. POST mandates a curriculum so all academy's teach the same thing, it comes down to how it it presented and how good the instructors are, and that can be hit or miss just like it is anywhere with teachers/instructors.
