Here's some insight from the next county to the north where CCW criteria is equally restrictive.

First off, you have to simply accept that a vague description of threat, or a desire to better protect oneself just isn't going to be adequate. You need to be very specific in identifying your threat (preferably by name, address and DOB) and you need to show why other protective measures are inadequate.

Speaking specifically in regard to Orange County, you can pretty much forget the "political contribution and favor" avenue. The current sheriff pulled back a lot of CCWs that were previously issued on those grounds. While I may not fully share her views on CCW issues. I've worked for the current sheriff before she went to Orange County and found her to be extremely capable and professional. She's done a lot to restore confidence in the OCSD after her predecessor left for federal service. But as long as CCW issue is discretionary in this state, you have to accept the discretion.
