Anyone here from Torrance PD or OCSD?

Hey guys,

I am testing with Torrance PD this Wednesday and OCSD this Saturday. Any specific advice pertaining to each department I should know about?

I have looked over their websites and I have done written test, oral interview, & background packet for LASD so I kind of know what to expect within those parameters, but if there is any advice pertaining to Torrance PD and/or OCSD particularly, it would be much appreciated!

BTW is anyone else testing with either of them or both?

I might have mentioned before that I "failed" a BPAD test for Torrance PD way back in the day - dunno if they still administer that test. I wasn't very impressed with it (and not just because I failed). Funny thing is my answers/reactions today would still be the same as back then...

Oh I have heard of that. Torrance PD seems to take an extra step for their testing. If you don't mind me asking, are you working for an agency now?

Congrats! What agency did you end up working for if you don't mind?

Give you a hint, there are two big agencies that start off with "Lazy As$" - we're the ones with two-tone uniforms...

Years ago, someone asked me about working for "LASD" in front of the wrong people. When Johnny NoGood commented about it, I responded "Los Angeles Sanitation Department" and and told him I was a garbage collector.

I too failed the TPD written. And yes I failed bad. Honestly, every guy I know has failed their test. GOOD LUCK lol.

I went through the OCSD academy with a guy from Torrance PD. He got slammed during the peer eval phase and Torrance dropped him.

A good friend of mine was hired back in the day by Torrance PD; he failed training and was dropped. A year or so later he was hired by Hawthorne PD, passed training and probation without an issue. He will be retiring soon after more than 25 years on the job. He was one of the best FTO's I had the pleasure of working with.

On another note; when the City of Hawthorne was having financial problems, four of our officers left and lateraled over to Torrance. Within three months, three of them came back to HPD. They did not like the climate, if you get my drift.

From my understanding and experience growing up/working in the South Bay, Torrance PD has always set itself apart from the other South Bay agencies.

I hope I just pass the test for Torrance PD and OCSD. OCSD's testing is pretty fast... Written Pass/Fail, Pass = Pre-investigative interview with a BI Pass/Fail, Pass = Physical Agility Test... All in one day

Well, since I'm not Ron, I won't share what I know...

FWIW, I got no beef with Torrance - just their hiring process (which actually worked out better for me in the long run anyway). Well, actually, I am a little bummed they stole a buddy of mine away from our department (but it was a good move on their part, I would have done it to them too if things had been reversed). The few guys I know with Torrance are solid dudes and my few interactions with them when I used to live down that way were all professional (even got a break from one of their motors back in the day - Before I got sworn even!)...

Yeah I watched that show. The Torrance PD DI was pretty young looking, but definitely on top of it. That show had some funny recruits though, cause that was before LASD had a VPAT before hiring lol

I would be ridiculously ecstatic if I got hired by any agency!
