    Colton CDCR shooting...

With respect to the victim Officer and his family:

Follow-up work leads to information released today that refutes the rumors and speculation about this being a targeted hit on law enforcement. We are told that these two criminals left a strip club adjacent to the gas station, under the influence and intoxicated, and this was a robbery of opportunity. Apparently the unarmed victim was approached and asked for directions, then shot as he attempted to flee. The actual shooter is a gang member, however, he has not yet been to state prison.

    Bottom line: no green light.

This may have been random, but there is other info that suggests there may in fact be a "green light" on LE in the area.

Bottom line, stay alert, aware, cautious, and armed.

Other intel confirms a need for heightened awareness for law enforcement operating in that area, but it is not appropriate to post on the open forum.

There is a different specific incident and other intel for the current belief of a Green Light in the area.

Look, I'm going to give a statement based on my personal obervations only. This is only my opinion here.

I live a stones throw away from both a state prison and a women's state prison. Around the corner is a state run "rehab" prison. Literally every single day, I see CDCR guards driving their POV's and wearing their green "prison uniform" pants/jumpsuit with either a white T-shirt or their green jumpsuit donned with a flannel shirt over that. They are complete with their black boots.

Anybody that's anybody (ex-cons, parolees, outlaw bikers, inmates, general public etc...) knows that the person I described is a state prison guard. I see them at the local gas stations, grocery stores, fast food joints, everywhere.

Why the F are they dressing that way off duty??? Talk about a neon light attracting a bad guy to them! To be fair, I've seen a few off duty cops wearing the same thing over the years and I just shake my head in disgust.

To me, there is absolutely no excuse to be seen in public, wearing a "partial" duty uniform. If the CDCR doesn't have a locker room, change out in the employee parking lot or...... Wear a jacket and go straight home and don't get out of your car. Avoid the gas stations, stores and/or fast food joints while wearing your duty attire. Otherwise, you're making yourself an easier target.

I used to live in the same area from 1979 to 1990 and it wasn't any different back then. My family used to occasionally go to a sit down pizza place in a neighboring city and often times we would see a group of them in white T-shirts, green pants and black boots, eating pizza and drinking beer. Many had their cuff cases with cuffs and flashlight holder rings on their belts. They were speaking loud enough that I could understand the war stories they were talking about. My young kids figured out they worked for le.

Like you TPT, I just shook my head.

Apparently for some reason, CO's LOVE to let people know they're CO's.

Son of a gun..... I was at my local gas station this afternoon and a CDCR CO was transferring fuel into his POV. He had his green jump suit pulled down around his waste, with the sleeves tied into knot at the belt buckle region. Sure enough, his state shoulder patches were clearly hanging out on display, along with his white t-shirt (neon bad-guy attractant) and black boots.

What is it with you CO's and your off duty attire?????? Seriously? And you wonder why you're own gets targeted off duty, while wearing/displaying that garb?????

It's been stated before that there are no readily available locker rooms for them to change before and after work. Also, I haven't heard anyone wonder why their "own" are getting targeted. It was probably more of a fluke. I've worked for CDCR as a non custody staff member for nine years and this is the first attack that I am aware of.

No locker rooms? I'm calling BS on that one. You mean to tell me that out of all the state prisons, they don't provide locker rooms for the guards????

Yeah the state is really gonna build a locker room large enough to accommodate 800 officers at each prison.

Well, every Los Angeles County Jail facility has them and we house around 20,000 inmates on a daily basis.

Instead of getting bonus pay for things like wearing a Sam Browne belt, something every street cop does, maybe the CDCR officers union should focus on things like locker rooms. Even if they put up portables in one of the parking lots.

To some extend true, some don't care and I know someone who wears jumpsuit halfway down and ccw with "bring it on" mentality. But he usually stops at the gas stations only.
What's even more retarded and just plain stupid is some wears full on uniform while shopping, walking out of the gym, driving etc. No wonder CHP likes to cite them so much.

I posted something similar on another thread and based on the limited posts in this forum from those who work at CDCR facilities it seems that this is the reason CO's don't have locker rooms or at a minimum changing facilities.
