You could be cited for driving unregistered vehicle on a highway (VC4000) and your bike could be impounded pursuant to VC22651(o) if it is expired in excess of six months. Other VC violations could be levied if there are equipment violations, moving violations, etc.
You will either have to have a one day moving permit or the vehicle registered to get the bike out of impound (I'm fairly certain its not financed!). This is explained in VC221651(o). I think DMV demands registration, however, if they find out you were cited for VC4000 on a vehicle that was impounded. If so, lookup their schedule for late fees to determine that.Stay classy, CGF and Calguns.Originally posted by bwiese[BTW, I have no problem seeing DEA Agents and drug cops hanging from ropes, but that's a separate political issue.] -
LIKE ABOVE, VERY TRUE. YOU MIGHT GET CITED FOR FOR 4000 (A)(1) CVC - EXPIRED REGISTRATION, 16028(A) CVC, NO PROOF OF INSURANCE, 12500 (A) CVC- DRIVING WITHOUT A VALID M2 CALIFORNIA DRIVERS LICENSE FOR A MOTORCYCLE. PLUS, PERHAPS CHANGE OF ADDRESS, AND OTHER OTHER THINGS DEPENDING IF IT'S REGISTERED TO YOU OR NOT. I WOULD GO TO THE THE DMV AND GET A 30 -DAY PERMIT TO GET EVERYTHING GOOD.Comment

You need to test ride it prior to registering it? Load it in the back of a truck, drive it out to a large parking lot for a shopping mall or other large venue, take it out, test ride a few small laps in the lot, reload in truck, take home or to DMV to register.Comment

Get your 1 day moving permit. It's way cheaper and less hassle than getting ticketed for it and having it impounded. Then again, if you are just circling around your house, and not far from home, and you get lucky, most of the time you would be told to walk it home and park it. (sometimes we do have real crimes to go after)
