    Police Recruit Questionnaire

    Hey everyone,

I am currently filling out my questionnaire that is required before the polygraph. For moving violations in the past 5 years do I need the exact month and year or will I be hit for being off my a month or two? I've got one moving violation but it was about 3 1/2 years ago and I can't remember the month.

Go to DMV and get your printout of violations in the last 7 years. It will help you make certain you answer the question correctly to avoid any "mixups"

Be as specific as you can, but feel free to use "approximately" in your answer. I received both a military traffic citation and an out of state citation (only one of each, thank you!) and neither appeared on my CA DMV printout, so I gave my best estimate and noted in the comments that the dates were not necessarily precise, due to the amount of time that had elapsed. I've done the hiring process twice (small town, then the big city as a lateral) and it's never been an issue.

Another thing you can try is if available, visit the court who processed the citation. I had a citation that I attended traffic school for. It didn't show on my DMV printout and yes I did get a 10-year I believe H6. I went to the courthouse they found it. Police dept records offices I guess can only look it up if you have the citation number.

I never made it to backgrounds but at least I'm ready for the next go-round. Congrats as well for making it this far in the process.
