    Someone showed me this:

Take the polish tin and put a flame to it. The polish will start burning and melt. Once you have enough melted (a few seconds should be enough), blow it out. Then, use an old shirt or similar and work the molten polish onto the boots. Let it dry then buff with a Kiwi horsehair brush.

    It's worked well so far.

Cotton undershirt kiwi polish and spit. Have an hour I hit it with a kiwi sponge. It takes the swirls out

I use a professional on my dress shoes, and Kiwi instant shine on the work shoes. Ain't got time to be doing that on the work boots cuz they get scuffed everyday if you are a working cop.

Get a good rough underbase on your shoe by either using a liquid dye or something that dries rough. Even cleaning off the old wax will work while leaving a little build up is fine.

Then take a dab of wax and a place a drop of water on your old t shirt with the wax on it. Basically dip the shirt in the wax then dip in water and start rubbing it out till the wax is gone. Rinse repeat after enough wax is off your shirt and you get the result you want.

I used leather luster for my last 12 years. First strip with acetone completely, then steel wool between coats. Vacuum with brush between coats to get all the loose wool up.

I used to use a hair dyer and a lot of polish to establish a base coat that filled in all the pores. Followed by cotton balls and vapor to establish the next few layers.....but then discovered

                        LEATHER LUSTER!!!!

It was a pain in the *** to strip off all the original shine with MEK but the leather luster lasts for a long time. The toe remains crisp and even straight through my academy but it fractured like tempered glass on the sides.

Before you use Leather Luster, ask your Academy staff. It may be prohibited.

You do not want to get caught violating the rules as the penalties can be severe depending on the Academy staff......

Put two fingers (2 only) inside and wrap up using only one layer of the shirt. Put a little water in the lid of the polish and get to it using small, circular motions. Use mimimal water. After you get a decent coat on there switch from water to your breath and use less polish. Change the position of your fingers often. A lighter is only necessary on colder days or if the polish is harder or older. If you want to get crazy you can use floor polishing wax in the same manner afterwards or even Mop & Glow but it's not real good for the wax or the leather and you'll have to eventually strip the whole thing and do it again.
This is exactly how we did it in boot camp. We took dull black boots with giant pores and by the time we were done with them they had a mirror polish. It take some effort and time, otherwise get yourself some patent leather boots.

I pay the guy at the uniform store to shine mine. In between shines I just hit the scuffs with one of these:

It's basically a sponge that comes pre-filled with polish.
