Got called back for my second interview...

Any advice on what to expect? I've done several oral interviews, but this would be my first, follow up interview. I was told it might be with the Captain, not sure. If I pass this interview, they will then start my Background. Anything I should know? Is it different from my first interview? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Id probably further explain to calgunners what position/industry your "exploring" for proper feedback.
One may assume leo, but assumptions are a waste of time.
    Good luck!

I assume the first interview was a panel, at what point did you get that interview? After written and physical agility? Have you been handed a background packet yet?

You are correct, first panel interview was after the written and PAT. I have since completed by background packet, turned it in and now scheduled for that second interview.

My guess is the next interview will be with your background investigator, to go over your packet and ask questions related to his/her investigation.

A second interview is a very good sign. Congratulations. If you were an explorer as your moniker implies, be sure to extoll the virtues of the agency you are applying for and how great your explorer experience has been.

Don't be afraid to tell them you are the right person for the job, you are honest, you have a high degree of integrity, etc.

Look for the hypothetical situations, these are always very sticky. One used to be your training officer and you get a call to a burglary alarm at night. You find the business broken into and go in and find there has been a burglary. As you call the owner to the scene, your TO takes a couple of boxes of this or that and tells you not to say anything about it. What would you do?

It's not as tough as you might think it might be. Don't be afraid to notify your superiors about these things because the LAPD scandal back in the 90's started out just like this. The ultimate result was officers were burglarizing the businesses themselves.

You may also get questions about observing an obvious use of force, what do you do?

                Best of luck!

Actually its not with my BI. If I receive a passing score, then I get assigned a BI.

Thank you for your response. I indeed was an explorer and will try and use that to my advantage if possible. My first interview was panel board and I was asked scenario questions. I just do not know if this second interview will be the same or not. It would seem redundant, but who knows. Thanks for your response, definitely gives insight.

From the Dept I worked for, this is probably the BIG one....meaning after they talk to you they could give you a conditional job offer, send you to backgrounds asap and everything that comes after...physical, psych, etc. As with any interview, open and honest communications is best.

I'm not LE so I have no advice to offer but I'm glad to see your hard work progressing. I hope to be in your shoes moving forward somewhere soon.

Be honest and sell yourself. Nobody will sell you better than yourself and nobody will know everything that is good like you do, so why not tell them?

The second interview is likely to be more specific than the first and they might include some responses you gave in the first interview so they can follow up and clarify or get more in depth on some things you said. Of course, it would be good otherwise they wouldn't call you, but still, sometimes, they would like to get into some details better.

                          Good luck.

Thank you. The one thing I can tell you is that I have been trying to get hired since 2011. The one thing that I have learned is to be patient. If you really want something, do give up and work hard at what you really want.

Thank you for the info. Any general info about LE that I should really focus on for these types of interviews, in addition to what you already mentioned?

From what I have seen, the second interview is less about technical LE knowledge, which you are not really supposed to have much of anyway, and more of who you are and why you chose that department and how you can contribute, in a less formal setting to get to know you better.
