Modified exhaust=put the mufflers back on. It is a loud exhaust issue.Last edited by Hot Holster; 04-01-2013, 5:17 AM.You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right. You might not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home, the first two things you're going to do are, 1) Call someone with a gun, 2) Pray they get there in time. -

I have never understood why people put things on their car to make it louder. I'm assuming there's some kind of performance benefit? All I know is 99% of the time your car sounds like a farting lawnmower, seems kind of silly.Comment

usually a 3 to 12 percent performance issue from what I have been told. Usually not worth the ticket IMO.Comment

Actually, you must fix it more quickly than that. See Vehicle Code section 24004. Technically, you are allowed to drive it to a repair location or home. Or you could keep driving it and receive additional citations.
24004.
No person shall operate any vehicle or combination of vehicles after notice by a peace officer, as defined in Section 830.1 or subdivision (a) of Section 830.2 of the Penal Code, that the vehicle is in an unsafe condition or is not equipped as required by this code, except as may be necessary to return the vehicle or combination of vehicles to the residence or place of business of the owner or driver or to a garage, until the vehicle and its equipment have been made to conform with the requirements of this code.
The provisions of this section shall not apply to an employee who does not know that such notice has been issued, and in such event the provisions of Section 40001 shall be applicable.May I always be the type of person my dog thinks I amComment

Lol, well for the sake of being less hated, its less of the farting lawnmower sound, more of that beautifully toned American muscle....volume @ 100. Not that p.o.s. whining car that the kids zip around in.
But nevertheless, its illegal.
So ticket sign off <30 days? It showed a court date on there to appear, sometime in May...?...sorry guys, never got one of these before.

Basically, if you keep driving it in its modified condition, you could get a stack of tickets, one for every time you drive it.
You can also get cited for unlawful operation after noticeby a peace officer, 24004 CVC, which is not a fixit ticket. It is a "one point" violation.
The court date is when you have to have it cleared with the court. It does NOT mean you get a free pass until that date.LASD Retired

Uh, yeah!? Loud pipes save lives, y'know???
Not. Its more of a "hey everyone look at me aren't I cool?!"
Edited to add: not calling OP out. Refering to those brain-blowingly loud Harley type bikes that love to throttle up in my neighborhood. At night.Last edited by IrishJoe3; 04-01-2013, 5:23 PM.Urban legends are a poor basis for making public policy.Comment

I put aftermarket exhaust on my Honda Shadow Sabre to make it a little bit louder. I literally could not even hear the engine/exhaust when riding at highway speed with stock exhaust.
I can not tell you how many times I have discovered minor problems with a motorcycle by the engine sound, and have been able to fix minor problems that if left unfixed would have caused major if not catestrophic problems.
I would not call my bike "loud", I would simply say that I can now hear it growl a little when I twist the throttle, and I can hear it purr on the freeway.sigpic
If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.Comment
