Precheck before I buy

I found a good deal on a handgun but I don't know the person and he lives far and won't ship before I drive for 2 hours and pay the guy and do the transfer at a FFL how can I be sure it's not stolen if it is I loose the money and the gun where can I call to find out if its stolen can I call the station and have them check the serial number over the phone

If its too good to be true, it probably is!!

Try to get a picture of the gun with the serial number in it. Bring the photo to your local police station and ask if they can check nicely. They might do it. I would if somebody walked into my station.
