He probably joined the police department and used his discretion to cite you then make you go through all that trouble preparing to contest your ticket only to not show and remind you that you aren't worth the compensation to go in on his day off.Comment

Do you realize that you are in a section of the forum asking for information because you don't have the basis to form an answer...and now you're commenting on how to do a job that you don't understand.

It's much worse for the officer to FTA. Loosing a case now and then goes with the territory but not showing up for court is a major issue. I've not seen it happen but I've heard of judges threatening to issue bench warrants for officers who do not show.
Repeated offenses could land an officer on the dreaded "Brady List." This list is the death knell for an officer and very simply put it means the DA or the court has found the officer has no credibility. If an officer has no credibility they stand to loose their job.sigpic

I didn't tell him how to do his job. On the contrary, my saying "Your Mileage May Vary" seems to lend quite a bit of latitude in how his job duties are interpreted by his command. I simply commented on how I as a private-sector employer would view an employee who only worked 36 hours a week, choosing to not do part of their job.Do you realize that you are in a section of the forum asking for information because you don't have the basis to form an answer...and now you're commenting on how to do a job that you don't understand.

Was worth it to me. I beat his BS rap, saved $200 and got paid a full day's pay to boot. Deputy Oates just stayed home and got nagged at by his wife. To each his own.Do not give in to evil, but proceed ever more boldly against it.Comment

If you have a subpoena for criminal court it takes priority over traffic and the Officer will be excused. If an Officer has important training or is on vacation they will be excused from traffic court as well. Traffic court for infractions has fairly low priority in the scheme of things.
If you have no other issues and fail to appear you will be taking suspension days and with enough you can and should be terminated.Comment

What I'm saying is that you can't apply that standard to LE duties. Not issuing Juvenile citations except in extreme cases isn't the same as not putting in a full week's work...because the journey is the worthier part...The Shepherd's TaleComment

Actually, in my opinion, your responses are the ones getting ugly. I guess, because of your avatar, you are against human rights, including those of police officers. Your comment about the deputy staying home to be nagged by his wife is inappropriate.I didn't tell him how to do his job. You have no clue why he wasn't in court, along with having no clue about other things. At least you are consistent. YMMVLASD Retired

Steadyrock needs to really think hard about what he is saying. Does anyone want to live in a world where police action is taken 100% of the time?
Generally we try to do our best to keep the community living together as civilly as possible. Obviously serious crimes require action and will receive it.Comment
