The best thing to do is call the Yosemite ranger station. It is legal in state campgrounds and in the national forests area's, but the National Parks can be a different set of rules. I do know that they have approved (maybe) concealed carry if you have a permit in National Parks, but there are exceptions, so it is best to call them and ask directly, and be sure to get a name when you do call.

carry the gun in a locked trunk if possible, also rember once you get out of the big cities and into Mariposa County or Madera County the most popular routes to Yosemite the deputy sheriffs are not jerks and will work with you on issues like gun carrying if your honest with them. These two counties still have farmers driving around with rifles in the windows

So if a bear attacks you,you can point your gun at him,but not shoot him? and you can't have or use pepper spray at all?

Guns are not allowed in CA state parks besides in hunting areas.

Title 14 CCR 4313. Weapons and Traps.
          (a) No person shall carry, possess or discharge across, in or into any portion of any unit any weapon, firearm, spear, bow and arrow, trap, net, or device capable of injuring, or killing any person or animal, or capturing any animal, or damaging any public or private property, except in underwater parks or designated archery ranges where the Department of Parks and Recreation finds that it is in its best interests.
          (b) Nothing herein contained shall be construed in derogation of the use of weapons permitted by law or regulation and to be used for hunting in any unit, or portion thereof, open to hunting.
          (c) Firearms not having a cartridge in any portion of the mechanism, other unloaded weapons or devices such as traps, nets, and bows and arrows may be possessed within temporary lodging or mechanical mode of conveyance when such implements are rendered temporarily inoperable or are packed, cased, or stored in a manner that will prevent their ready use.

Here is an interesting exsemption to carrying a loaded weapon in public.

            The crime section first:

CPC 25400. (a) A person is guilty of carrying a concealed firearm when
the person does any of the following:
            (1) Carries concealed within any vehicle that is under the person'
s control or direction any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable
of being concealed upon the person.
            (2) Carries concealed upon the person any pistol, revolver, or
other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person.
            (3) Causes to be carried concealed within any vehicle in which the
person is an occupant any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable
of being concealed upon the person.
            (A) The pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being
concealed upon the person is loaded, or both it and the unexpended
ammunition capable of being discharged from it are in the immediate
possession of the person or readily accessible to that person.

CPC 25850. (a) A person is guilty of carrying a loaded firearm when the
person carries a loaded firearm on the person or in a vehicle while
in any public place or on any public street in an incorporated city
or in any public place or on any public street in a prohibited area
            of unincorporated territory.

            Exsemption section:

CPC 25640. Section 25400 does not apply to, or affect, licensed hunters
or fishermen carrying pistols, revolvers, or other firearms capable
of being concealed upon the person while engaged in hunting or
fishing, or transporting those firearms unloaded when going to or
returning from the hunting or fishing expedition.

I read this as it is cool to carry Roscoe on your hip as long as you are a licensed fisherman engaged in fishing or licensed hunter engaged in hunting or a target shooter engeged in target shooting. But, if you read the (A) section, you are good to go for carrying a loaded gun in public as long as you are doing one of the above. That also implies that the section for carrying a loaded firearm in public, PC 25850 (a) does not apply.

When you spend too much time on the crapper you find obscure things!
