    LE patch collecting??

I'm thinking of starting off a collection of patches from different agencies in ca. Does anyone have any experience with this? Before my father retired he donated his entire collection to his department historical archives, so I'm staring from square one. As I currently work for a sheriffs department, I was thinking of starting by trying to get patches from the 58 counties in ca, then going to something else. If anyone would like to swap patches I should be able to get a fair amount. Any advice on acquiring some would be appreicated, thanks.

Got a ton of great patches so far, I put together a list of the patches I still need. Anyone that has one that would be willing to swap please pm me or post here, thanks.

Wish I would have started this years ago. I've done quite a bit of travelling around the world. Just wasnt thinking at the time.

I have some from all over. The one I got in Zermatt, Switzerland has the Matterhorn on it. I always take a bunch of patches when I go to Europe.

Big show down in Claremont every year around January:

Lots of patches if you’re looking to solidify your collection, get further ideas about different themes, or maybe stumble upon that one-of-a-kind-yester-year-hard-to-find patch.

I started when I was a police cadet. I contacted the POA or union of the dept I wanted patches from and most would send a patch.

Summit Uniforms in San Jose has a patch of every agency in the state that I can think of. Very cool, and a great place to get your gear/uniforms squared away.

I started collecting about 4 years ago, picked it up from my father. Contact the department you are interested in getting a patch from and ask or offer a trade for your department. That has worked for me, Pm if you would like a sdsd patch

Bump. If anyone specifically has sheriff dept patches I would be willing to swap.

Unfortunately, the patch collecting hobby has become a business. That's why I got out of it back in 1994. There used to be a couple of uniform stores in San Francisco (long gone, unfortunately) that had a great selection of California SD/PD patches available for purchase.

The Porky's show, previously mentioned by Ubermcoupe, is a treasure trove of patch collecting. Lot of fellow officers from up North come down specifically for the Porky's show. If you need it, someone there will have it.

Going after the 58 county sheriff's is a good start. My best to you in your collecting endeavors.
