    Financial crime

I worked for a security company that did government contracts. Recently, I was going to apply for a job as a civilian staff with a police agency. I went to the social security administration to get a print out of my work history. I did this so I could ensure that the application was correct.

On the work history printout, the company I worked for never reported any earnings to the Feds It doesn't even show up! Yet my W-2 states I have money withheld and that I was a employee

I feel like the IRS needs to get involved and audit this company. Yet if I decide to sue them, will a department consider me a risk? I don't know how to explain this incident to a background investigator, I am very disappointed..

    help!

Don't assume any evil intent. Computerized records are often incorrect. Why would you even consider "suing" them before you determine if any wrongdoing occurred?

You explain it just like you did here....It's called "the truth".

Did you ask the IRS to look into the situation to get the correct info?

The reason I suspect wrongdoing is because co-workers, and people have complained about too much taxes being withheld, or not enough being taken out.

To me this is like the icing on the cake, the accountant appears to be embezzling. There's been too many instances where it's been a " accident", alot of people who work there just " dealt with it" for a job. I recall filing out a W-4 twice to have witholdings fixed, it still was above what the charts were listed at.

It's up to the IRS... Did you request they investigate?

I will call the IRS tomorrow.

I did some research, I guess the crime is classified as " wage theft". like I said all my other jobs are listed on the print out, and this particular job is the one that always had issues with the pay checks.

As far as a lawsuit, I know it's way to premature to do anything. But the question I initially wanted to ask, is wouldn't a applicant in the middle of a pending suit prove to be liability? So I thought I'd ask before I explore that avenue..

Social security records tend to lag way behind real time. It might take six or twelve months for them to start reflecting 2012 wage info. I wouldn't get excited about it just yet unless you worked this job long ago.

You might consider contacting the Franchise Tax Board first.

Maybe they had your SSN wrong? I worked for a security company years and years ago and they had my SSN wrong for the longest time. I don't know what they did if anything to fix it.

                Don't assume the worse

My accountant filed the appropriate forms, quarterly statements, w2's etc with the IRS for my employees. My manager discovered that social security did not have any records of her earnings for 3 years. I callled the IRS and discovered that all tax deposits I made were credited to some other corporation's tax ID number. It literally took 11 months for them to finally clear up this mistake. The IRS is understaffed and routinely makes errors that go undetected until it's brought to their attention. Everyone should use the social security website and annually check their reported earnings to catch any errors. The employers are rarely at fault!
