    Fish & Game

Anyone have any idea what's going on with Fish & Game?

I was in the process, scored in the top tier with vet pref, would have been the Jan 2013 academy had I been hired, but was told the academy was cancelled... and I noticed here:

...that the cadet exam was cancelled.

I have the recruiting officer's email and plant to contact her along with two wardens who are members here, but was wondering if anyone had any additional info.

ETA: I see that they've moved the academy to the CHP Academy campus. Does that foretell a significant change in the style of the academy or the direction of F&G?

I would doubt CHP would provide much more than the physical plant, eating sleeping and physical training areas. In the past various agencies have used the CHP Academy and have provided their own instructors.

The rank and file wardens are great guys and I like worki g with them... Many of their lower level management are still very field active too.

I have several freinds in the field and have geard many different stories over the last 6 months. Most recent I was told was that with the State level streamlining, F&G will be enveloped by CHP. The positves to this would be they can cut some upper management costs and even bigger plus is Wardens will finally be on par with CHP and other State level LEO jobs. Should help with their recruiting as well.

I contacted Fish and Wildlife and they said they are moving their academy to the CHP academy in West Sacramento. Maybe this is one of the reasons why the academy was cancelled.

Fish and Wildlife will not be merging with CHP anytime soon. They looked into it last year and they decided it would not work at that time. I could see them merging at some point in time.

True, but for example the academy at Butte wasn't a "live in"... at the CHPA there is the potential for that.

At Butte there is (or was) a fair amount of interaction between cadets and other students, at least potentially. At the CHPA that goes away.

Just a different feel to an isolated academy vs one at a CC.

With the change to "Wildlife", an acknowledgement of their much broader mandate, I was just wondering if it foreshadowed any cultural changes in the agency.
