    Gun Use Advice

I had an incident just outside my bedroom window of my apartment building last night. I was woken up to a guy screaming for help and that he was being robbed. I jumped up, peaked out of my blinds, and saw two men beating on another man. By the time I was able to get dressed, grab my pistol, and run outside all three of them had run off.

I realized later that even though I was only trying to help until the police arrived, if I ended up having to fire in self defense I could get into serious trouble. I also wondered what I could've done if I informed them of my possession of a firearm and they continued to beat on the other man.

I know probably the best course of action for me is to just call the police and stay out of the matter but it would be nearly impossible to just watch as an innocent man is attacked. I know I would want the help.

I know it depends on the variables of the situation but I'd like to know what the best course of action in this scenario would be?

Yell "hey, not cool" out the window, then call the police. There's too many variables and liabilities. What is the man wasn't innocent? What if it were a setup to get someone to come out of their home? I dunno.

FYI 2vs 1 is considered a deadly force situation as long as you can articulate it, I had one off duty incident involving some homeless where 4 of them were coming after me and I had to draw down on them. If you have a firearm and 2 guys are easily able to overpower you then you have a justification to shoot. However I would be a good eye witness in this account unless the guy goes unconscious or weapons become involved.

Call the police and be a good witness. The fact that all three were gone makes me wonder about the innocence of the "victim".

How do you know they weren't "staging" for a hero to come around then mug him?

No need to get yourself caught up in situations like that. Call 911 and keep an eye. The fact the "victim" ran off also leads me to think he wasn't a true victim. Dope rip, gang mess, who knows. I'm guessing it was the middle of the night since you were sleeping. Only two kinds of people up at that hour.

Besides, with the cost of ammo these days....
