    Chat With Security Guard

While I was talking to a security patrol guy getting ready for his shift on our street he put on his gun belt, pulled gun out of case, (loaded?) magazine already in the weapon, and put it in his holster. I noticed he didn't chamber a round and asked him what the company's policy was on where to chamber/unload the weapon since he did everything outside. He said it was a felony to chamber a round in public, so he just leaves the magazine in the gun with one in the chamber at the end of his shift, puts it away, and then pulls it back out again when he starts his new shift.

    1) He's breaking the law by driving around with a loaded weapon in an unlocked case (locked trunk though) while he's coming and going to work?

    2) Is it really a felony for a security guard to chamber a round when starting his shift? (Depends if he does it in car/outside on street?)

They apparently don't go into their station/office at all, just show up in their patrol area when they start their shift, so where does the law stand on this? Are they typically violating a law that isn't enforced?

    1. As long as he has an exposed firearms permit, I believe its legal, although I always have mine loaded at all times and on my person.

    2. No.

He can wear the loaded firearm on person too and from work loaded, thats it. Stops at the gas station, ILLEGAL
Stops to drops kids off at school before work, ILLEGAL
When I did armed Security I always charmbered a round before I went to work at home, or at another job when issued my firearm I would chamber a round in a clearing barrel. I have no idea if it a felony to chamber a round in public...... I havent heard of anything like that before.

            That's good - it isn't accurate.

Uniformed BSIS guards with firearms permits may carry loaded and exposed, from home to duty post, on post, from post back home.

No difference chambering a round in your house or at the duty location or anywhere else.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

But he sounded so sure of what he was saying. (Still astounded by the vast numbers of people that can say things that are completely wrong in a very authoritative-sounding way)

Like the guards on 9-11 that told people all is well, go back to your desks at the WTC....

If there's a charged magazine in the weapon it doesn't matter if there's a chambered round - by law it is loaded either way.
