    Gen 4 or Gen 3 Glock 22?

    Hello,

I am a State Parole Agent, so I can buy a Gen 4 Glock 22 without going through the SSE stuff. I can buy it through the Blue Label program and get a discount on the price just like any other peace officer. However the store I go through says their supplier does not have any in stock right now and would have to order it. Now with the way things are going, there could be new gun ban laws any time now, so I am worried about that. Coupled with that worry is the fact that I will only be a peace officer for a couple months since I am retiring in March. So I have to make a purchase before then.

Now the guy at the gun store called his source/supplier who said that although he didn't have any Blue Label Gen4s in stock, he did have a Blue Label Gen3 in stock. He had no idea how long it would take to get a Gen4.

Now as a Parole Agent I carry a Smith and Wesson M&P 40 on duty, not a Glock like a lot of Police do. So I figured here would be a good place to ask what people think of the differences between the Gen4 and Gen3 Glock 22. Please share your experiences and help me make a decision as to buying the Gen3 that is in stock, or ordering a Gen4 and hoping it gets here before I retire.

    Thanks

Get an M&P 9c or 40c before you retire. The Glock is ok in my opinion, but the M&P is better.

    Just my $0.02 worth.

    Retirement is great.

I purchased a Glock22 gen4 / RTF out of state (Military are also eligible for the blue tag program). Excellent pistol thus far - have fired a variety of JHP & range fodder ammo with zero FTF/FTE.

The RTF finish is great IMO, I wore gloves a lot when shooting in Northern New Mexico (cold climate) & the pistol stuck like glue to shooting gloves. Felt as if it had excellent positive control.

Worked well in cold, dirty, daily carry, CCW applications during that time frame as well.

Now it lives in a safe & sees occasional range time. Haven't used it extensively, in LEO type role, obviously... Yet I'm quite satisfied with it.

Blue tag program prices can't be beat!!

Also check out Buds Police Supply dot com - really good discounted prices for LEO, military, firemen, etc. Before the craze started, I got a flat top AR for $604 from them. Sadly, same AR is now $900 and back ordered.

Buds was also seemingly good about not hiking prices up too drastically either. I've seen them run the M&Ps for as low as $389 previously by the way.

Since it is the new issue weapon, we had the option of buying our own personal M&P to carry on and off duty. So I bought my own M&P 40 and I love it to death. Can't miss with it and love the trigger and reset on it. But since I have the M&P covered, I wanted to buy a Glock because I don't have one yet. I have shot my nephew's Glock 19 and don't like the way the grip feels. But it is also a gun you can't miss with. Very accurate and easy to acquire targets/sight picture. That is why I want one.

Stick with the M&P 9 or 40. My isssue is a G22 and I can out shoot it with my M&P 40. At 10 yards there about the same, at 15 + yards my M&P is much better. Both do failure drills nicely. We shoot year round, cold, hot, rain (no snow in so Cal), roll around in the dirt with no issue on either one. Some guys swear by the Glock. I think it's a preference. My vote goes with the M&P.

Thanks a lot Doc. I am a retired BMC(SW/AW/SCW) as well. The Parole Agent Gig is my second career. I will check that out, but if it involves shipping the gun, or driving 3 hours round trip twice, then it would cancel any discounts. But I will look into it and see if he has one in stock. Thanks again.

              Out of stock

Buds Police Supply is out of stock on the Glocks. It has a couple of trade ins, or used ones, but not even the model I am looking for. Thanks though Doc,

call Glock @ 1-770-432-1202 and ask for LE sales to order directly from them and have it shipped to your FFL....

I own 2, an older gen 3 22c and a new DE 22 gen 3. I went with the gen3 so I could interchange my slides and the gen 3's have always been a good fit for me.
I also own a M&P .40, I like it good solid gun but I would not choose it over a Glock 22, gen 3 anyway not enough time spent with gen 4 to make the same claim.
Congrats on retirement, the way CDC is mishandling its paroles division. It is very good timing on your part.

                          1. Are you left handed? If so, wait for the Gen4, it has an ambi mag release. 2. Does the Gen3 fit well in your hand? If so, go with the it. The only other difference in the Gen4 is the ability to have the different back grips.

So, basically, you have nothing of value to add to this thread?
