how old is too old?

i have been considering LE as a career since i was 16. at 21 i ETSed from the Army and started looking into it. then i fell into something completely different.

i am currently 31 . and have been considering it still. the only down side i see is i am not sure if i want to take the paycut.

i just thought i would ask how old is too old anyways.

How you know if you have an aptitude for it? What did you do in the Army? Why did you get out of the Army?

i guess i dont KNOW i have the aptitude for it. since i havent done it.

i was a mechanic for 4 years active, and spent 1 year in a psyop reserve unit.
in highschool i completed a year of law enforcment ROP, graduated a year early, and joined the army at 17 with intentions of getting out at 21 to pursue a career in law enforcement.

i would love to go on a ride along. is it as simple as asking?

about the paycut. money isnt everything. but i would have to make some lifestyle changes that wouldnt be fun.

I think Governor Moonbeam's retirement reforms did away with buying back military time, but that may be mistaken.

With LASD you used to be able to buy back 4 years of military time toward retirement.

Governor Moonbeam did or will end that as of 12/31/12. No more "airtime" buying whether military time or just buying years.

I didn't know military time was going away too, but ARC time is definitely dead as of 01/01/13. I bought 2 years of ARC time and 16 months of active duty military time just earlier this year. It was EXPENSIVE but it will be worth it to hit the 98 button 3 1/2 years early and get away from the PRK.

Bought 3.5 years ARC myself.

Agreed on "no too old". On the flip side, though, we did hire a retiree from another LE agency. We were hopeful he would bring some good experience. Seemed he was more interested in just kinda' gliding along. Very disappointing.
