Good boots, for the price. I had the 8 inch, side zip. Lasted almost two years. Not easy to get a good shine on the toe but good all around boots. Just replaced mine with some Danner's, and it's next level.

I have a pair of atac's that I have used for about 3 1/2 years and a pair of taclite in desert. Both have been great. The taclites are super light and comfortable. The atac's are just now starting to wear out. But they have been good to me. Wore them through the academy without any problems. Can't beat them for the price.

Also look into Bates Durashock and Rocky Portland boots.

They are good for the market rate. Soft, comfortable. Not as durable as more expensive brands. +1 on the poor toe shine. If you need serious foot or arch support these will not fit your need. They fit like slippers.

I have the ATAC. They are amazing, super lite and feel like a running shoe. The only down side is that they have about a year shelf life then their done. I bought a pair last December and had to replace them last month because the stitching fell apart. Other than that they are awesome.

A year long? I wore mine in the academy, I bought comfiest boot I could find for obvious reasons. I did have a hard time trying to polish them . But I never noticed the stiching on mine coming out. But I also had a pair of bates that lasted 3 years! They were tough as nails, one day I decided they were too worn out. And I gave them to my dog to chew on, he finally managed to mangle them somewhat.

ATACs feel great but I burn through them often. About one pair a year or so are worn out.

Is the Adidas GSG9 boot still regarded as being a top tier boot?

I'm wearing a year old pair of the 6" tacklite right now. Good price and good boot. Last a lot longer then the Oakley boots I had before these.

If you are looking for cheap, Chinese made boots that will wear out in short order 5.11's will meet those demands.

Do yourself a favor, spend the coin ONCE buy some made in America, hand made boots. Your feet will thank you for it.

I purchased and returned a pair of 5.11 boots. I had to unlace the top two eyes to get them on.

No problems with blackhawk and Danners. I do not know if I got a weird pair, but they did not work for me.

I have 5.11 taclite boots 8" zip/waterproof version. They are great. I have had them for 3 years with no issues. I used Danner Acadias in the academy and for a bit in the field. They are by far superior boots but they are like having bricks on your feet which is why I wouldn't recommend them for any kind of heavy walking/foot patrol.

My only gripe with 5.11's is that they don't polish up good like others have stated. You will still get a shine, but it won't be a brilliant mirror polish style shine that should be associated with law enforcement and military use. More like a dull, shine.
