    22100A Question

Fine Calguns Officers, a little clarification on CVC2100A would be much appreciated.

Road is divided with 2 lanes each direction, in a school zone. Far right lane is packed with cars dropping kids off so it is impossible to move over to the right. Turn signal is on forever to get over into lane #2 but no one lets you in. A break in the traffic in the #2 lane lets you move over just prior to the entry into the parking lot.

Traveling in the #1 lane, move to the #2 lane and then make a right turn into a parking lot of a school. Proper signaling applied. How much time (distance) needs to be spent in the #2 lane prior to turning into the parking lot?

The technical answer is the duration of signal (100 ft).

22108 CVC - Any signal of intention to turn right or left shall be given
continuously during the last 100 feet traveled by the vehicle before
    turning.

Therefore you must signal and therefore travel a distance of 100 ft prior to any turn.

      Thanks NuGunner.

Driving in lane #1, turn signal on for 1/4 mile, noone would let vehicle into lane #2. At the point of the parking lot someone stops and waves vehicle through from lane #1, through lane #2 into parking lot. Nice motor officer meets vehicle to present driving award.
