    Duty gloves

Looking for recommendations for a pair of duty gloves. Not looking for anything with the big tactical knuckles. Mainly a pair of gloves for searching. (Persons and property)

Nike batting gloves from sports authority. All black with the white Nike logo, I sharpie it out black.

Cheap, maybe $12 a pair. Thin enough to feel good, and if you lose them you won't be out a bunch of money for the high speed tactitool gloves (those have a place, but unless I'm working a demo I don't wear them).

They also aren't bulky and fit in a sap pocket. Plus if they get super messed up with blood just throw them away. I keep 2 pairs in my locker.

By "feel good" I mean search good and maintain dexterity/sensation.

I would not recommend that you use gloves which are not disposable while conducting searches.

As you touch contaminants and other questionable substances, you then put that inside your pocket or where ever you store your gloves. Gloves are porous and get dirty.

Rubber or nitrile gloves which you discard after every search might be an option for you.

Having worked in an area where there was a high incidence of contacting contaminants, personal protective gear and protocols were a high priority.

Yup. Searching = latex gloves. I had a trainee who put on his nice gloves when searching the dirtiest transients. I kept asking him WTF he was doing.

I like the batting glove idea. Hadn't thought of that. Not a big glove person myself. I would suggest that if you have gloves, you make sure you can defeat your holster's features with them on - or don't wear them. I've even thought about qualifying wearing latex gloves just to see how hard it is to shoot with them on.

I know you don't want any tactical trunk monkey stuff, but maaaannnn wouldn't it be cool if lead-filled sap gloves were authorized!!

                Not LEO.

For searching why not use something like the Hatch Kevlar lined gloves for the protection and then use a size or two larger pair of nitrile or latex gloves over those?

Not a bad idea, but cumbersome. Takes time to put all that on. Plus, if you can't draw and shoot with all that on it would be dangerous. I could also see 2 layers of gloves being "squishy" and sliding around. Never tried it though.

At least here, the DA doesn't prosecute needles. So most bad guys have little incentive to lie about them. Plus I tell them ill go for ADW on an officer if I get stuck after they had the opportunity to cough up the needle. Even if its a bluff it's worked so far.

So, the lined kevlar gloves, while safer for puncture protection, take away sensation while searching. So you might miss a bindle of dope, or a small knife, or really anything not blatantly a gun or knife. I also use latex on the searches I know may turn out gross, or for handling evidence. All just personal preference.

Good part about the batting gloves is they are thin so I can feel stuff and still manipulate my weapons well. I wear them shooting pistol, AR, shotgun, and 40mm's. And with the leather palms if I do touch something or someone mildly nasty I can dump some alcohol or purell on the palm and disinfect them. Or throw them in the wash, hell or just throw them out. I used to have the more expensive tactical gloves which were more or less the same and about three times the price. Got that tactical mark up!

On a side note, you may find searching without gloves is better. I'm about 50/50 gloves vs no gloves.

As of now I have just used latex gloves. I end up carrying a lot of them around so they take up an entire pocket on my vest. I was think it would be nice to have just one pair. But some of the stuff and people I end up searching can be pretty nasty so it is nice to be able to just throw them away.

I just buy boxes of black nitrile gloves. They're perfect. You don't want to re-use gloves. Once you pat someone nasty down, they're tainted.

Just go to sports authority and buy a pair of batting gloves. There like $20 and you wont be out a bunch of cash when you loose them. Any barrier is better than no barrier when searching people.

Keep in mind you'll be searching someone who's soiled themselves or are bleeding at some point or other. It's good to have something that's a barrier against fluids. Nothing is going to help protect you against being stuck with a needle that will also allow you to feel much when searching someone. Most gloves will soak up fluids or at least be tainted afterwards. If latex is good enough for your member, it's good enough for your hands. Plus they don't affect shooting. Train like you fight. Unless you always shoot with the gloves you'll be using, don't wear them on duty.
