    Oral board interview this week

Just passed my written and physical agility test for a local department. Have a general idea what to expect for the oral board, but anyone care to shed some light on it a little bit more? I'm pretty calm under stress and am a good speaker, but want to know if I can expect any crazy surprises. I know I'll have to learn as much about the department and why I want to be there and all that. Thanks guys folks!

The ones I found the hardest are the ones that start with, "Tell us about a time when..."

ie you were involved in a conflict, what did you do, what was the result, etc.

A lot of places make you sign an admonishment that you won't talk about the interview.

Conflict resolution difficult decisions youve made how you have handled diversity in the work place. A situation where you have had a disagreement w a supervisor or co worker and how you have handled it

I think you and I might be going to the same interview. Is it tomorrow? =)

Did you make sure to have a full suit? Good luck!

It's for Contra Costa County. Going in Friday morning. And yeah, for a suit and all that lined up. Hopefully it'll go well. Good luck to anyone else going too!

Number 1 thing to remember is who the Sheriff is. I remember taking an oral board for Butte County back in the 80's. They asked who the sheriff was, I answered the captain actually got up came around the table shook my hand congratulating me for being the only person to have the answer all day.
Of course the standard advise don't change your mind, after you finish your answer no matter how long they sit without saying anything keep your mouth shut.

Take a moment after the question to gather your thoughts prior to answering. Do not just rush and throw an answer out there. Notice I said a moment; don't let it extend to long.

Also, be relaxed, but sit up and keep your hands on your lap. Don't cross your legs, fidget, etc.

Whomever asks you the question, be sure to look them in the eye while talking to them. Don't look around, off in space, down at your knees, etc. Be confident in your responses.

Remember, they expect you to be nervous, if you weren't nervous they would probably wonder if you wanted the job badly enough lol.
